Thinking about a new car

Say Chili --- any tips on restorations?!?!?!

I recently "inherited" a project (like I need another) from my neighbor--- he has 3 or 4 of these lying around the yard--- and just started a total rebuild of a 77 4x4 .....this one was "in the way" so its now at my house--- along with the title --- got it for a steal........I mean really --- I could part it out and quadruple the $ in a weekend.

North Fl. truck from day one --- VERY little rust for an all original body --
Original 302-- fires and runs like a champ (sounds great too) tranny and brakes all work perfectly --- need fresh fluids and filter changes --- but all in all a runner--- lights work -- turn signals work-- wipers work--- its a peach---mostly a TON of cosmetics are needed....new shocks....new underside rubbers...

My son and I are making it a "project" together -- should be fun.

Is it and AT or Manual Trans? Adrian
You have a big head start on me Adrian. I wish I could buy it off you. The body on mine is about shot. Also, make sure to use Stabil in the gas if you have it sit for any amount of time.
Shiddin Ethanol crap.

My main issues I encountered with my 77 were the ignition module ( cheap part) Fuel filter on Carb, Steering lash adjustment, alignments, etc. No other big areas to worry about except making sure Oil and Filter changes, Trans fluid and filter, Power steering and brake fluids.

If you lived up here, you'd be checking brake lines for rust and of course belts and hoses.
Also another thing to check since it is kind of old, is Spark plugs and plug wires and cap and rotor.

Well -- its been (literally) in a barn for 20+ years.
It NEEDS stuff--
it will need tires-- soon-- all the fluids need changed.... filters need replaced...it fires and runs solid---- but--- for how long with all that old juice running through it---I dont want to find out---
Brakes are "functional and mushy" but they stop her --- new pads new fluid-- should snap that back--- cant find any real leaks -- MIGHT be a manifold leak -- or an exhaust leak some place -- I can smell it -- seat needs recovered --its a shredded mess-- some various rubber seals and gaskets --- dash pad is split --couple areas need some bondo/repair-- and some of that Corroseal-- but all in all -- for what it is-- its seems a solid truck

I hear ya Grant. But unless I am mistaken, a Lancer was initially really a 4 cylinder grocery getter, no?

Yeah but you gotta be careful bringing eggs home from the grocery store...

The Mitsubishi Lancer is a 4 door sh!t box. The Evolution is a 4 cyl 2 liter DOHC turbo charged box of whoop ass. It started off with a Lancer body, with wider fenders, and steel body parts replaced with aluminum. This ain't your ordinary everyday grocery geter.

Thanks bud, it's pretty nice, I was looking at a couple others but the price I got it for it didn't seem to make sense. I mean I was seeing a bunch of Kia's & Hyundai's & numerous other cars with say 10-20k less on the odometer & maybe a year or 2 newer but $500 less. Just didn't make sense to me especially with this being AWD and all the options it has compared to those.
