...anyone ever played through one? It is supposed to be a very high headroom super clean amp. Very good pedal platform. I'd like to hear from anyone who's ever heard or played through one live.

Not sure what you mean? It is a guitar amp, no?

Guitar amps are designed with distortion built in at every volume level - that's what gives them crunch. This one clearly isn't made that way. It is completely clean, relying on external pedals to do the sonic work. That is what makes it a Hi Fi amp rather then a guitar amp.

When I was a kid, we had a hi-fi (high fidelity) radio. What made it hi-fi was the two way speaker with both a woofer and a tweeter. Hi-fi was soon replaced by stereo. The stereo speakers were later upgraded to 3 way that had woofer, tweeter and mid-range. Then came the sub-woofers. Now-a-days there is more wi-fi in my life than hi-fi. All my music playing equipment is high fidelity equipment that I just take for granted. Surround sound 5.1 on my computer and so on.

So by your definition of hi-fi is this a guitar amp or not?

Carol Ann is very high end amp brand that come at a high end price. All their amps with the exception of the Satin are just incredible. Beautiful cleans and some of the sweetest overdrives I've ever heard. I know nothing about the Satin, but if Allan Phillips builds anything, I try to listen. An amp with lots of headroom is perfect for those that like to get their overdrive and distortion thru pedals. A 50 watt amp with lots of headroom is just about as loud as a regular 100 watt amp. My 2 cents... :)

I've had these Akai speakers since 1975. My older brother bought them when he was in the Army in the late 60s. I had them in my fraternity house at Drexel in 1975 and 1976. They are kick ass speakers. They were voted the best in the house and we had some high end equipment, JBL L100s, Bose 901s, etc.

That's a 12" woofer, a mid-range, a horn tweeter, a round tweeter and 2 I don't know whats. The Wharfedale E70s below it are no slouches either :celebrate2:

OK... now you have opened up a can of worms with this amp. I frickn like it... :yesway:.

This example is super tone-full. These cleans and reverb sound spectacular. This amp would be perfect for my Tim (overdrive) pedal, or my Bogner Red Ecstacy (Marshally to Hot Rod Marshally), or my Hermida Audio Zendrive (Dumble) pedal... oh Hell yeah... :dood:

This will soon be a New Amp Day...I just bought a Carol-Ann Satin!
You Mofo…. congrats...

I don't see how you could not like this amp, but I do hope it works out for you. Make sure you get in touch with Carol Ann Amps owner. He has a good reputation for customer service.

Very nice. High headroom cleans are not my bag, but if they were it would be hard to beat this thing.

I cant use clean amps--- MASSIVE amounts of gain and distortion hide that I screw up like every 4th note ----

I actually find it harder to play with the proper amount of articulation when using a lot of gain. For me at least every little goober comes right through. I can fudge a lot easier with a clean amp.

My Carol-Ann arrived...and it is FANTASTIC! Just the amp I've been searching for. It will break up at very high gain and volume, but
just gritty and not over the top dirt!

...and oh the crystal clear cleans...did I mention how much I love clean sounding amps???

I can't wait to put the new Dark Side pedal in front of it and see what I can get out...
