Greta Van Fleet:

Not one note of originality. They are a big yawn to me. Too much fantastic new music being made today for me to look to the past with a band like this.

When I listen to the relative simplicity of the arrangement, I am simply awed by the energy in the delivery. I think their energy level is such a drug for me...the classic Gibson through Marshall tone without apology...a very classic rock vibe...

Please refer to the thread where everyone, including R. Plant, likens them to Zep. They are too "close" to be an original. The rest I leave to individual taste.

I can see and hear the influences...and then i recall imitating my favorite guitar hero in stage dress, presence and style, but, I honor them in some ways because of talent and pure energy and in others because I remember being 19 and struggling to land gigs and get airplay...I love the way the guitarist approaches his tone. Simple. Effective. Not needing a case full of effects.

That’s exactly my problem with them. Been done to death. If they want to get my attention they will need to make some noises that I haven’t heard 1000 time before, or been listening to for 45 years.

I can totally appreciate and respect that....

Sooooo.... they sound like a young Led Zeppelin...but they look like a “boy band”.
I’m not gonna critique their playing, as when I hear it on the radio, I like it more than a lot of the music I hear coming out these days.
They don’t hit me like Soundgarden did...or Alice In Chains...or Stone Temple Pilots...when they first hit the airwaves. They do certainly have potential for growth, and there seems to be something festering there that resembles talent. There’s an awful lot of high “ohs”, “babys”, and “mommas” for my taste though...perhaps that’ll change.
Edit...and now that I’ve watched a little of the live performance footage, I see the singer seems to have some of Plant's hand gestures, and posing down.

"There was the 2009 edition, which brought us this equal parts mesmerizing/horrifying viral video of a naked, LSD-drunk wizard with a micropenis being tased repeatedly by angry cops as a crowd of obnoxious, pseudo-outraged onlookers shrieked"

Now thats funny, I don't care who you are.
Ignore the link it pasted in with the quote.
Although I will try to find the footage later at home, lol.

Oh, and I'll give the Fleetsters a listen over the weekend.

People continually bitch and moan that there are no Rock bands and when one comes along that stirs the young kids and gets them out to shows
they just get criticized because they "sound like so and so" or they "look like a boy band".

I'm just happy there are kids who are trying to turn their generation on to Rock & Roll...

Haters will hate...

I dig them....

Robert, I don't care what anyone else has said so far.
I really like them! I have been listening to them in the truck every day this week.
The fact that Robert Plant seems to like them certainly legitimizes them. I like that they sound like Led Zepplin and that they are young. They will only evolve from here.

Totally agree!!!!!!! I love the classic rock n roll vibe...

Man, I just love classic rock n roll....I admire these young dudes. When I was 19, and playing with that level of enthusiasm and energy, we could only play to local crowds....

Indeed, Led Zeppelin they are not, there will never be another Led Zepplin, just like there will never be another Beatles. I like the fact that they are playing analog instruments, not just synthesized stuff over a drum track. I like the fact that they are playing original music, not just another cover band. I like the fact that there are trying to keep rock and roll alive. I'm not sure I would buy their CD or pay to see them, but I do respect them for what they are doing.

When I said that they look like a “boy band”, I did not mean it in a hateful way at all.
I guess I meant it in a bit more of a skeptical way.
Long gone, are the days when just pure musical talent might allow success in the industry. Now, it seems, we must be presented a total appearance package...If you’re not pretty, you might as well consider composing for someone that is. The way of things, I guess.

I never gave a rats a$$ about knowing what Rush, or Pink Floyd looked like. I don’t think I’d recognize Neil Peart if he walked by me in a grocery store... They certainly contributed mass quantities of significant music to the masses though.
Perhaps these kids in Greta Van Fleet will too.
...and perhaps we can someday hear Benedict Cumberbatch read their lyrics on Kimmel...
Ala Steve Allen...

and someone needs to tell them "skinny jeans" are for girls---

The band in this thread are clearly a tribute band, but not that many folks could do a LZ tribute band well, and they do it well. They have talent, sound good, but it'd be nice to see them branch into their own sonically created/creative space.
