I depend on my computer to work from home every other week. Tonight when I try to access the computer that I need to connect to, to do my job, I can't connect. Although I do have automatic updates turned off, Microsoft in all of it's wisdom pushed an update through to my home computer anyway. Now I can't get in to do my job!!!! I'll be spending the night trying roll back the updates and get this computer back on it's feet. Any geeks out here will know what I'm talking about. Grrrrrr
 
I have network certifications, I've taken programming classes in the 80s, and I've built computers for all my family and friends. PC computers are a friggin pain. And they've gotten worsr. Almost got myself banned.
 
I'm at work now and I have submitted a request to get a laptop assigned to me TODAY! I tried setting up Mrs Wav's computer while I was uninstalling the most recent MS security update from on my computer. My wife's computer did not want to play nice and refuses to accept the required software. I asked the guy that I share the on call duty with if he could cover my shift for this weekend and he said NO.
 
Bill has no say at Microsoft anymore. I used to spend a week or two every year at the Microsoft campus. I used to do speaking tours for them about new products. I would spend a week or two there then design a presentation on the products and teach it to other speakers. Within a year of Bill leaving the writing was on the wall. The Microsoft Fellows program was decimated. It was a pure research program with no onus on the participants to do anything other than what they were interested in. There was no commercial aspect expected other than any cool ideas that might work would be spun off to other teams to develop. They had teams of people to engage with customers big and small to see how they reacted to new products. They had a very large and sometimes public beta testing program. That is all gone. They ignore outside advice and only focus on how to improve the bottom line. It is far cheaper for them to do minimal testing of updates and force them on the unsuspecting public. They force their online systems on the unsuspecting public. Almost all of the people I knew there have left, disgusted with the way things are going. Microsoft is on the decline as a software company. They are trying to change to an online services company.

Apple customer service is great but I got a new I Pad it lasted less than 72 hours hardware crash. It was great with my Allen and Heath QU-16 PA board for 72 hours.

ACTUALLY I both LOATH and love "tech." I CUSS my phones and computers and FLOG them mercilessly ----however if it where not for them I could not DO the VOODOO that I DO every day.
I am mobile--- functional--- free-- I am "teathered" by the digital ball and chain --- but-- I am OUT and about--- driving breathing --living-- I did stints in "cubicle-ville" & "factory-ville" and if I where forced to that path still---I would have most certainly been in a Bell tower picking off passers by with a high powered potato gun and a pink tutu--well before this point----
I can work from the beach--- from a truck stop--- from a bunker in the Colorado woods in an disclosed location---- from a drive way of the place my wife is rescuing YET ANOTHER ANIMAL--- and as long as I am "johnny on the spot" digitally for clients and bosses----no one REALLY knows where I am ..........or what I am doing ...........or if Im wearing pants! :)
Outside of that I can find AMAZING deals on GEAR and buy shite from ALL OVER THE GLOBE --- without well putting on PANTS or leaving the house!

So Bill --- your a monumental rich douche nozzle---(not really many say he is a very nice guy) ---- you screwed that Apple guy and stole his ideas.....(I really dont know or care) --- Steve Wozniak has been carry your sorry ass since day one !!!!--------but hey man ---- if your spying on this thread......

Yeah, those updates are a pain in the arse. I am typing this on my 4 year old pc laptop, but when it dies I'll replace it with an iProduct because I am soooo sick of Microsoft (although I do like the MS Office suite). Got a 12" Macbook in January, and it's a better work tool than any PC/MS laptop/Linux based laptop that I've ever had.

I don't like iPhones much, or the iTablets, but the Macbooks are miles ahead of an MS loaded laptop, imho - &, I say that as someone who is not fond of iApple as a company.
 
Wav, I believe my girlfriend had the same issue with her PC she has been using to do her graduate school work on. Stupid Windows 10 BS.
My New Used Dell Laptops started out with Windows XP Pro and Vista I believe. Unbeknownst to me I am now getting the idea the sellers had pirated Windows 10 installed with no official code number. Now on one I am getting a message that says my windows version is about to expire and I need to enter the code,,, and on my other one I get a Security detection that says I have an issue that appears to be a worm detected, ( Which I think is essentially a detection of pirated method of getting windows 10 instead of the proper way) The seller says to file with ebay so he can get me to return it to him.

Anyway, I hear ya Wav, and for good measure, MIcrosoft posts a box every so often making a way for me to rate Windows 10. I rate it as SH. Give me Win 98 or Win XP Pro or even 7 any day.
