Pick the Vibrato - Duesenberg or Bigsby?

Alrighty..

I'm nearing the point where I want to add a vibrato to my Les Paul Studio project.

I've pretty much narrowed this down to two options - the Duesenberg Les Trem II or a Bigsby B7, using the vibramate kit.

Just for a reminder, here is the guitar:

We're all pretty familiar with the Bigsby. If I go this route, here is what I'd use:



I've done a B7 on a Les Paul before. This is my Custom with one:

However, the Duesenberg is very compelling. It has a much smaller form factor and seems to have pretty positive comments in guitar internet land.

The Duesenberg is so easy, effective, inexpensive and reversable. Also, it will not make an LP much more rear heavy than it already is. I must say, it is impressive and would be my choice.

The Duesenberg is so easy, effective, inexpensive and reversable. Also, it will not make an LP much more rear heavy than it already is. I must say, it is impressive and would be my choice.

I do admit, I am leaning toward the Duesenberg for the reasons you cite. But, there is a certain classiness about the Bigsby.

But, weight isn’t really an issue here. This guitar is chambered so much that I sometimes describe it as a closed-top, semi-hollow guitar! It’s not much heavier than an SG.

You could totally ugly it up with a Stetsbar.

I would never do that but the option is there for you.

But the gold Stetsbars are crazy expensive, unfortunately.

I agreed with Tony until the 2nd post. Why spend twice the money when you know you want the Bigsby? That Dusenburg just looks fragile and cheap. Classy B7 all the way!!!

To be honest, the Bigsby is over twice the price of the Duesenberg.

Questions about the Duesenberg’s ruggedness have come up in various Internet forums. But, those who use them seem to be satisfied with its strength and tuning stability.
