Rob's Brand New Used 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute Project:

Hey, TTR Tone Bros, I wanted to create a new thread for this Les Paul project. This was the result of a quest to find a .951" 50's Rounded Profile Neck like my 2016 Gibson SG has. Only the 50's Tribute have these dimensions, but they have been largely discontinued.

Thankfully, Adrian (eSGEe) found me a black one at a music store in Massachusetts. I contacted the store and cut a smokin' deal to trade them my custom Ibanez DT555-FR Replica for it. They provided measurements of the neck and confirmed it is indeed a .951" 50's Rounded Profile.

The goal here is to have a lighter back-up for my Double Neck, with a similar neck and scale. Here's the first photos:

Planned upgrades are a custom 50's harness and re-installing the original Gibson Green Keys. I want to keep this as much USA/Gibson as possible and I am even contemplating having the harness built with 500kΩ Gibson branded pots. Initially, I considered some Gibson Wildwood Spec Custombuckers, but now, I am considering a set of MojoTone '59 Clones.

These are hand made in the USA. They feature 1959 spec butyrate bobbins, 1959 spec long leg non-magnetic frame, custom vintage spec plain enamel wire, custom Alnico 4 cast magnets, maple spacer, vintage spec screws, and vintage spec slugs. Resistance values are 8.1kΩ Bridge and 7.6kΩ Neck.

The harness I am looking at is made by Smokey 'B' and features everything mounted to an aluminum plate:

I will update this thread as things start moving along.

Special thanks to Adrian and Chilipeppermaniac... :-)

Weren’t you planning on using Burstbucker Pros, Robert?

And seeing as you’re really happy with the Throbaks in the double neck, why not repeat that succcess?

Hey!!!!

Yes. I scored a pair of Burstbucker Pro's on impulse. However, I decided to put them in my 2016 SG instead.

I been talking with the folks at MojoTone and I like how they are building these 1959 clones, so I am thinking about giving them s shot...

Very clean looking.

I've got a couple of quotes for a custom harness - both in the $120.00 range - with switch, jack and wiring, so its just a matter of which i like better, and Smokey B is in the lead with the mounting platd.

I am told that the Gibson branded pots are not as consistent as Bourn, but I want to keep this USA 24 spline...
