Micro-Machining Project:

[Inspector #20]

I got another roller bridge that I want to modify for use with the 12 string side of my Double Neck.



The rollers are .155" wide and .155" in diameter.

The center hole for the axle needs to be .070" in diameter.

The rollers will require twin grooves .035" apart.

I haven't calculated the groove dimensions, but all are the same.

Any idea who could tackle this???

I've created that in Solidworks - a standard engineering package. Here's the file - any decent machine shop should be able to turn a few of those from steel rod.

I wouldn't use aluminium - it has really high friction. Brass and steel are both good choices.

That would work for the guitar, but it is hell to machine. It just wants to melt and wrap itself around the cutter.

Hey, Don...How did you work out the string grooves??? they are the same on all 6 rollers, but I didn't measure them...

Just made them wide enough to accept the fat strings - thinner ones just drop in a little further

Love it, the only drawback will be lack of different intonation options on the octave strings.
That was always a hurdle with my Ric 12 that each string shared common saddles, till I rigged up an temporary but interesting solution.

Agreed. Don's idea is far better. I just love the rollers, but I would buy a set of Don's knife edges!!!
