Can being older have benefits to playing

I think it can, I find now that I am older I have more focus and have more determination than when I first met the guitar when I was a teenager, back then I quit after 1 year of lessons wished now that I hadn't , but I find myself now in a better place and committed to it. Its even brought me closer to music, I enjoy it more. I have found with age as well I have gained more confidence in myself and my skills. I would have never thought 4 years ago I would be playing guitar in front of people today. I wont be the best guitar player, but I work hard at it and most of all its fun.

I think approaching the idea that learning an instrument is a long term commitment is easier to understand and appreciate when more mature.

But learning curve, developing muscle memory and remembering compositions is certainly harder, not easier now at 54 for me at least.
If you are retired, the available time is a huge plus.
I can never get enough practice time in.
I never seem to get enough sleep so that hurts me I know, I can tell from day to day.

Yes....and no. I have more appreciation now, more money to buy my gear, and a better understanding of the overall commitment needed to become properly trained. What I don't have now is all the time in the world. I don't have the young fluent fingers, and endless sponge absorbing brain cells.

There are also pros and cons to technology then now. Younger me didn't have internet, YouTube, access to tablature, endless tutorials, digital quality. . I love that aspect now.
However, as a youth I would learn by ear with a record. That trained my ears to recognise proper tone/pitch etc.

I loved playing guitar when I was young, and I love playing guitar now.....more than ever. IT RELIEVES STRESS!!

That's pretty much it for me. My gigging days are long past, and I don't really have any interest in reliving them. I just get pure pleasure out of playing now, and it's like a drug.

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years now and I feel I play pretty good but the older I get the more my dexterity gets a little more off and my timing due to old age catching up on me. I practice everyday but I feel I'm caught in a rut playing the same riffs over & over again. Then when I watch YouTube and see a 9 year old Japanese kid playing far better than me it makes me want to throw in the towel!
