NGD one they aren't making any more

Been a little tired ( exhausted) from working and taking my dad to 3 Doctor appointments plus the strain of having to be prepared to outbid a world of competing buyers of the SG and not wanting to be struggling with my disassembly and re-install of the originals.

Research and plenty of rest is what I will need to make sure I do as close to factory repair as I am able to. SO last week was not the right time, Robert.

I'm wired from the 3.5 hour drive...can't sleep.

YAY John, but Boo at one going away,, and yup a Burny counts,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'd count an ESP, LTD or the Yammy SG Clone too.

What pups are in the one in your AV?

Manlius "Hot Goat's Growl" P-90.

There was nothing original with that guitar when I got it. It was actually quite a mess, but I couldn't see a '62 Special going to the grave. Lou did a nice job resurrecting it for me.

YAY Lou,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Heck, that guy resurrected an SG that was in a fire, Talk about a miracle worker.

I thougt they looked like P90's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, a '62 huh. Darn guitar is 2 years older than me.

Same age as me. As much as I've tried over the years, a '62 Standard has been out of my reach. So, I'm happy to have a '62 Special, and a mongrel '62 Strat.

John, I started on Specials,,,,,,,,,,,,,, my first ever SG is " Extra Special" since it is neither a 2 knob nor a 4 knob typical SG.
It has the 3 knobs kind of like a Strat and the selector switch is even different since it switches side to side instead of up and back like most SG's do.

NOW look at me,,,,,,,, I kind of picked another unusual bird in my 70's SG Standard,,,,,,, It has the small Block inlays which I never really gravitated towards, but I actually dig em now that I have a neck with em. They give me another, " unique" looking Gibson.

I read through this whole thread... it's fascinating.
I too would restore the old girl to her factory p'ups, but not right away.
I'd be interested in the tones of the EMG p'ups, and I'd play it as it is for
a good long time just to get a feel for what the previous owner did.

A closed mind is nothing to be proud of. So I'd want to experience the guitar
as modded, knowing full well that I had the power to restore it to factory at any
time. I'd be curious.

You might be able to sell the EMG p'ups, they might have been installed years
ago. Gibson bashing is nothing new, and there was a period of time when anything
made by Norlin was considered sub standard. *shrugs
To guys who thought anything Gibson made must be inferior, EMG pickups might be
considered an upgrade. I'm interested in what you think.

This guitar is a fine platform for exploration. It's already been modded, but you say
this one shows signs of being played. I'm curious what your opinion is:
What's this guitar like, compared to your other SGs...

After you explore that thoroughly, then I'd be curious to hear your opinion of the
instrument with the tarbacks re-installed.

Thank you Col for your eloquent and thoughtful mention of taking time to read the whole thread.
Also, thanks for the advice and seeing the many sides to a story. As for Norlin, I think my very first guitar, the '79 LP introduced me to Gibsons. To me, it was and is the greatest guitar Gibson ever made just for me. Knowing it likely will never return to me, I now get joy of meeting encouraging friends like yourself to help me fuel my learning to play and not give up. The Present is my time to enjoy the many differences in all my guitars and basses. I will certainly keep you abreast of how I like the new SG with EMG's and with the Tarbacks.

Also, as for signs of usage. In comparison to many " played" guitars, this one is very lightly used or extremely well cared for during the past 42 years. Short of pick marks on the scratch plate, this guitar is extremely clean,,,,,,,,,,, as I mentioned to Black,,,,, not even finish checking,,,,,,,,,, which I think he might have seen on some similar SG pics I posted.

RE: Selling the EMG's. I likely won't do that either. I am sure I will purchase a project that I can make good use of the EMG's in if I do indeed swap them out of the SG.

Like I mentioned to you me little BIG buddy the EMG's are great pick ups! Save them for sure on a guitar project and you won't be disappointed.:)

Black, I found this ampfest that show me one good use for EMG pickups. If only my pick hand could move that fast.

Pretty cool looking pick ups on his LP Custom. I noticed adjustable pole pieces on them pups...must be a different set of EMG's. He sure gets a great tone through the Marshall amp...nice & tight bottom end to the sound with clarity on the top end.
