NGD one they aren't making any more

Just got back home with the new guitar and original pups and pots and 2 EMG Boxes.
I plugged it in to my red knob Twin and all the controls seemed to work fine.

For those who have used EMG's, how much volume increase will I notice if they seemed a bit weak even with Amp gain up to about 7- 8 and both volumes at 10 on the SG?

I have a feeling I better change the battery and find out.

PS. This is one CLEAN as can be expected guitar for it being 42 years old.
PSS. The Original pickups are indeed Tarbacks and the EMG boxes and instructions even came with it. Not sure which EMG's they are as the model numbers were apparently a sticker or something that is no longer on the boxes.

I mean to tell you, I definitely think this was a played guitar, it was also fairly well cared for by former owner(s) Except for putting EMG's in it instead of keeping the Tarbacks and factory pots intact.

SO glad he saved everything though.

They look like 85/81 but the color of the logo can be misleading.

Change the battery. Don't use carbon zinc.

I love EMG pick ups! I have the EMG 81 & 85 pups in my black Jackson King V guitar and they are absolutely one of the best pick up combos I've ever heard. They are very clear in tone and have a tight bottom end that doesn't sound muddy at all. I think they are one of the ultimate pick up sets ever.

I have become SMITTEN with the Norlin era Gibbos.........Congrats Chilli --- you know what they say --- once ya go white , er uhm...wait.....no ---

carry on

Grover Keystone tuners to boot.

They're actually Schallers. These "Gibson" brended tuners from the '70's were made by Schaller as were the bridges and tailpieces (you can see the imprint on the bottom of them if you take them off). I had one 77 Les Paul that had the normal "Schaller" inserts in the tuners instead of the "Gibson" ones which was unusual. They are best tuners that Gibson has ever put on a guitar IMO, obviously made better than the vintage-style tuners and a nicer feeling mechanism than Grovers. The set on my 79 Custom feels smoother than the tuners on any of my new guitars.
