I wanted this R8 so bad I couldn't stand it. After I got it I never cared for it...I tried, but it just wasn't equal to all the hype...

Oh yeah. I had a 1957 Les Paul Special. It was supposed to be the end-all for me at the time (this was many years ago) but ended up being a turd. Not because there was anything wrong with it, quite to the contrary, it was an exceptional example of what a Special should be. No, it was just a completely wrong fit for me - I'm less Johnny Thunders and more Jimmy Page than I was willing to believe at the time and no amount of fiddling with knobs was ever going to make that thing sound the way I wanted. Anyway, I sold it for more than I paid after only about a year and got myself a nice carved-top Standard, which was much better suited to me and what I was playing.

I'm a sucker for every stupid thing that comes down the pike. I never fell for one of those. They are the look into the future of Gibson. That will be the good stuff, wait until the new owners move it all to China.
