Well I worked for 38 years at a Large Chemical plant that made polyethylene pellets. They're product went into making many kinds of plastic products. So when I turned 55 I decided I wanted to pull the plug at 60 and that's what I did. It was July of 2014 and I just cant believe its coming up four years already. Its the best job I ever had. Don't get me wrong I liked my job and the ones I worked with,. and was grateful to have my employment all those years. I worked straight days with my weekends off. Much work is shift work anymore, Both my wife and I worked days. Since I have been retired I cant believe how fast the days go by. My wife and I keep busy she crochet blankets for homeless children amongst other things. Then we both camp during Spring, Summer ,Fall. I am heavy into R/C Aircraft, do a lot of flying and go to a few events. Winter time do indoor flying with the Electrics. I practice 2 hours every day and continue to take lessons once a week. Do a few gigs here and there. Play guitar at some campfires with a friend of mine. Plus doing the other things you know appointments, Family, Friends, Etc. Oh and don't want to forget once a week or twice down to see the Boys at the Shop to check out the Guitars. I am as busy as I want to be and its all good things. Nope I don't miss work. There are a few of us guys get together once a month for lunch. Its all GOOD.

I am a working retiree...I spent 26 years in the USAF and retired in 2005. The money is nice, but just not enough to live the way the wife and I like...

...so I started working for US Customs in 2006 and I'm trying to another 20 in for a second retirement.

What do I do you ask? I am a Telecommunications Engineer. I have my background mostly in Radio Maintenance. Everything from Air Traffic Control, Tactical Air Control, all the way up to 10,000 Watt High Power HF.

Why am I still working??? Honestly I love my job...the day the changes is the day I call it quits no matter how many years I have in...

I'm 58, not officially "retired", but I quit my mechanic / fabricating job over 10 years ago and never looked back.
The wife was OK with it, so why not?
The house was payed off, we have no kids to save for or car payments.

Now my side jobs & guitar repair gives me my pocket change.
Also freed up my time so that I could get rid of the lawn service and the pool service and just do it myself.

I can visit with my 90 year old dad & do lunch & beers weekly.
Do monthly gear lunches with "the boys" and generally just goof off most days.

It's great being a slacker.

I’ll retire one day from the company I’m working for, but I’ll have to find something else to occupy my time and make money.

Not actively doing something to earn an income would freak me out. I’ve been employed consistently since I was 16 (no, I’m not telling ya’ll my age!). There has never been a time since then where I wasn’t working or going to school...or both.

I’d enjoy retirement for maybe three months until all the home remodeling projects were done. Then, I’d have to find some kind of work.

Maybe I could open a music store...

...or do consulting work...

...or run ‘shine (just kidding!)

I get that needing to work thing! I just turned 58 and I've had steady jobs since I was a roofer at 14!

...and running shine sounds cool! You'd get to build a bitchin' Hot Rod too!

Retiring is not an option--- its the family way we work till we drop---but we all have been in sales so --- I mean we dont "work" anyway --- so I guess I am retired-----have been since 1989 or so when I started in this summer job .......
Damn I need to grow up and get a real job someday.............................................................naw

Retirement? Sheesh, I'm gonna be working til the day I drop dead.
There is no rest rest for the wicked and I'm evil, wicked, mean and nasty!

Watched my dad work until 6 months before he died at 79. Promised my self I would not do that. This summer when I clock out to go home on July 6 I will be singing an old Johnny Paycheck son . . ."Take This Job and Shove It" as I go out the door for the last time. I will have just turned 66when I retire.

I want to stop working but a have find myself before I am forced to spend time with me. I was thinking of learning a language. Then when I talk to myself I won't know what I am talking about.
Maybe Latin and pick up some side jobs like doing exercisomies. Hey pocket a $20.00 here and there.

For the past 6 years, I was doing work that I loved, for people that I hated at a pay rate much below what I was worth and use to making. That all changed last October. Now I work for a great company, with great people at a pay rate I can afford to live on. I don't get to exorcise my creativity like before, but I don't see any reason to retire anytime soon. I'll be 60 in June. Don't get me wrong, if I win the lotto, I'm outta there! Got a lotto ticket in my pocket, but I'm not packing up my desk just yet.

Old family story told ... I'm about 7 or 8 and my grandfather asked "Kevin, what do you want to do when you grow up?" apparently I reply without any delay "I want to be an old age pensioner like you pop!". When asked why, I had the answer ready ... " You don't go to work and the money comes in the post every two weeks."
I don't remember that conversation but it's been told as long as I can remember so I must accept it as true.
Move forward about 48 years and I'm there, not a pension but regular income from real estate.
Back story, I hated school and left at 17, did an apprenticeship in Fitting and Machining, took up tar track motorcycle racing and worked between motorcycle dealerships and industry. In late 30's intended as a short change I took a job delivering mail for Australia Post and found I could do my job from 5:00AM and finish before midday so spent my afternoons doing up and flipping houses. Best thing ever, buy rundown houses in good area add value with my hands, sell some, keep some, retire at 56.

60 You say? Looking at your Avatar I was sure you were Retired.:oops2: :D

I have been teaching mathematics and science classes at the monastery for years. I can't see a retirement from that. That are hanging by their thumbs and can't afford to pay a full time professor for all the classes I cover. They have an approved college status with a BA and BS degree. These people are going to be priests and most are their to teach at private Catholic Schools.

Always been interested with science teaching in religious schools. What do you do about evolution and the big bang.

(Mods, serious question, not trying to cause problems)
