The Muse I Adorn

Well I don’t get to play out often, but last year we had a company BBQ in the parking lot and we rounded up 4 of us that could play and we did about 90 minutes, spilt between easy going and then classic R&R (Clapton, SRV, Doors, Fogerty, etc). There’s about 300 people eating while we were playing.

Fast forward and we’re going to do it again on 3/12 but the lead guitar player just wants to play bass. So we’re playing all easy stuff since I can’t sing. No dirt pedals this go round. So I was thinking about doing everything on a 12 string. Pulled this guy out that I haven’t played in years and tuned it up.

On the road again lead, on a 12 string, well that’s different

Awesome!

When I saw this one, my jaw dropped, and it still does every time I open the case. This is a PRS P22, with 53/10 pickups and a piezo.Controls include volume, tone blend, 3 way toggle for magnetic and piezo pups or both in the middle position. It has 2 outputs which can be sent to different amps to split the piezo and the magnetic pickups or they can all be sent to one amp using a single output. As you can see, I changed the pickup rings to chrome and installed strap locks, but everything else is stock Meet Phoenix.

I dont think your using that KUSTOM amp properly ---- you should send it own south for some "seasoning"

Never really heard of or played Yamaha’s back then. Walked in to Jim’s music in Irvine CA about 20 years ago and saw it hanging on the wall. I always had a sweet spot for 12 stings. So I pick it up and dang, the action and playability we’re great. It came home with me that day.

Today is Thursday.
It's a day to play a guitar.
This one today. PRS Mira S2 in Cienna (reddish brown)
Nothin' fancy, just a nice slab of mahogany with a rosewood board.
Feels good, sounds good, light weight, excellent fret access.

Giving me the PRS GAS all over again.
*shudders*
*almost imperceptible eye twitching*

Deep breaths......
Whoa, ok, I'm All Right Now.

reminds me, I learned a little Kossoff lick last week, cant find the link.

The Mira S2 body and neck are made in the PRS Maryland facility.
The electronics are imported but sound more than OK.
The electronics are all pickguard mounted (except for the jack).
(If you are a switch slapper, replace the switch now.)
You can get a used S2 for around 500-700 USD.
This is a ready made modding platform.
Is that what Paul had in mind?
I wonder.

Yes, I think. Paul has always been pretty vocal about his encouragement for players modifying guitars to suit their specific needs.
When I got my Mira I thought it sounded great, but over time realized the pickups weren't really for me. I tried 4 sets of pickups in it until I was completely happy with the sound, and the best thing about the pickguard-mounted electronics is how easy it is to work on.

Tonight's Muse is my girl Goldie Hawn, an R6. She has the stock Gibson P90s, but they are hot. I only made one, very important mod to this guitar - cavity routes for adjustable pups! That's right, they do not have to be dog ears to be stuck in place. Gibson chose to make this with incredibly shallow routes to stay true to historic specs. Now, this guitar is just perfect!

Funny typo. I knew it was a Dremel tool, but I went to school at Drexel. A case of the hands not typing what the mind told them to do. This happens a lot with me.
