IMG_7502.JPG IMG_7517.JPG IMG_7515.JPG I have been slowly putting locking tuners on all guitars that I play. The benefit is changing strings is easy. That is all I thought it did! It stabilizes the tuning. That bunch of string that wraps around the post changes with a tremolo and a little with bends. Less contact the strings have and the less friction is a plus. I don't like thru the body strings when they can run straight on a roller bridge to a roller nut. For now I want to ask you beautiful people if you are just as thrilled with locking tuners as I am? The bottom picture is the vintage tuners going on my Studio. They look like the ones I took off.

I'm with ya. I love locking tuners. I only have 2 guitars that don't have them and I am likely going to change one of them out (the other is vintage and all-original so I am going to leave it alone).

I can appreciate a good set of locking tuners. I don’t have them on all of my guitars. Just five of them right now. They are a must, for me, on any of my guitars that have a non-locking trem. I may look in to some Hipshot locking tuners for one or two more, in the near future. I think they look pretty slick, and interesting.

IMG_6912.JPG IMG_7060.JPG I put the Hipshot tuners on my Les Paul Standard. I really don't care if I ruined it for some further buyer or that it's not all Gibson anymore. It is probably my most used guitar and it gets new strings a lot. I hate changing strings and cleaning cat boxes.
I do have some real cheapies coming from China, they are in the neighborhood of $10 bucks. A gold color for my BB King 355 and a silver set for my newly created Casino. They are probably the same quality as the die cast stuff that comes on most of the regular level guitars we all had or have.
I will let you know how safe they are for pets and clean rugs.

I put locking tuners on my Gibson Studio tonight. Nothing seems to go right. The bushings flop in and that ain't right. No I have to get bushings in a bigger size. Never stops, must of been that small fire I started when I escaped from hell. Someone down there don't like me.

Which ones did you put on your Gibson>???

They are Gotoh locking tuners and look just like the Kulson tuners I took off my Studio and Standard. These have a problem with the real product they have been made for. The bushings they come with doesn't fit the modern Gibson peg head. I had to order the correct size. That is not the problem. I was chasing my tail to find out what bushings I needed. The ones with the metal knobs fit perfectly in a few minutes. With these the holes for the little screw holes are there and I did not have to drill at all. I will love it once I get them on. That is them.

I'd also recommend Planet Waves auto-trim tuners which I bought a set a while back. They work very well and have built-in cutters that automatically trim off the excess string...pretty neat idea. They also have a high tuning ratio...the ones I have are 18:1. You just need to drill the holes in your head-stock a bit bigger to accommodate the size of the shafts.

I heard a guy talking about them, I hear they work very well.

They are great Blues Session 5! I really like the auto-trim feature which is a bonus. The high gear ratio gives you better tolerance when tuning to correct pitch. I would imagine they make tuners for Gibson style head stocks as well. Planet Waves have an assortment of real useful guitar related products...just Google it when you get the chance. I bet your Godin Progression Strat is dying for a set like these. It just makes changing strings so much easier and quicker especially if you're on stage and need a quick fix real bad.

I have now heard about these a couple of times now, I like what I see from the video. Something to consider for sure. I like Planet Waves , they make descent guitar products, I believe they have the D'Addario line as well. I use the Planet Wave cables.
