Gibson's New Look

Taking inspiration from the brightly painted "shaggin' wagons" of the 1970s, Gibson has released a new line of Custom Boogie Van Les Pauls.

The models feature a three-tone paint job reminiscent of racing stripes, coming in five different aptly named nitrocellulose finishes: A Squad, Street Race, Bell Bottom, Super Hero, and Stardust. Like a decked-out Econoline's shiny bumpers and hub caps, the guitars' ABR-1 bridge, tailpiece, control knobs, and switch washer are all glistening chrome.

While Gibson notes that both a resurgence in the popularity of '70s Les Pauls and the era's street vans are the basis for the "fun mash-up," at $4,999 USD, this joy ride isn't cheap.

These break my heart. Gbson finally did something I have wanted for literally decades: put out a proper Les Paul Custom with the three-piece maple neck including volute. Then they had to ruin it with ridiculous paintjobs. Killing me.

If not for the stupid paint I would have already sold a couple other guitars and put in my order for one.

Did they use nitro or car paint?

So, I gotta ask...when Gibson comes out with strange designs and color schemes, does anybody actually SEE anyone play them?

I don't usually. Every once in a while, but not at all often. These are collector guitars, case queens that go to people who use them as investments. As goofy as they are, there will be a time that they are worth significant money simply because they are "different" and a limited run.

Dood, I work from the time I wake up at 5am til I pass out asleep at 10pm. I'm on call this weekend... right in the middle of a nation wide outage and I expect my phone to ring all night tonight. We are also doing an upgrade to our server this weekend with a scheduled 2 hour outage. I barely have time to stinker let alone check out what's going on in the guitar world.

DUDE---- you gotta stinker! that poop will back up and your HEAD WILL EXPLODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said Gasket has the unfair advantage of getting TO TOMORROW half a day or so before we do! :) -- I think he knows things he isnt telling us..........like where my other flip flop went....
