I was referring to the jacks that came on the “balanced cable”. I was hoping to see them before you removed them. “Balanced cable” is traditionally used as mic, or component cable and is typically used to make “balanced” connections in an audio system...like connecting rack mount gear to a mixing console, or recording interface. They typically have a 3 conductor terminator, like an XLR, or TRS.
So the bare copper and the bare silver braid... join them and shrink wrap, or keep them separate???? Or???
Stupid question, but is this cable directional??? Take a look at the image close-up.
If so, can you tell me which end should go to the speaker???

Indeed!
:dood:So Robert, what did the original terminal ends(jacks) of your Monoprice cable look like before you removed them? They were both obscured in your original pic(gloved hand pic), and may have helped in identifying the type of cable you actually received from Monoprice.
See my edited post above.
Yes you can use lamp cord for speaker wiring or speaker cable. Or, you can use speaker wire for a lamp cord... as long as the gauge of wire supports the current that will be going thru it. Here's my take on using lamp cord. Lots of regular lamp cord is 18 gauge or smaller. If you are going to use a 2' to 4' speaker cable that can handle 100 watts, I would not go anything smaller than 14 gauge for safety sake... and yes it's a little overkill. It wouldn't matter to me if the amp was only 5 watts. It will be of some comfort knowing that your DIY speaker cable can be used with any amp. That's why I posted my DIY speaker cable using 12 gauge speaker wire. The local Marshall warranty tech guy told me he uses hardware store two conductor lamp cord!!!!

Or you can go to Lava Cables an purchase some fancy-shmancy speaker cable in bulk and use that to build your own custom lengths...
Bulk Lava Tephra Cable
I used the regular 12 ga. zip style speaker wire I had on hand for 2 combos and 1 head and speaker (the 18w chassis sitting on a repurposed subwoofer cab you may have seen).
I dont see needing a jacketed cable if it is not going to be dragged around.
I peeled the 2 conductors apart and twisted them tight. I dont think it matter though.

Yep. That’s what is inside one of those black(or whatever color)jacketed speaker cables. Two (preferably copper) conductor wires...they are usually black and white when jacketed.
