It's gonna happen sooner or later, which is really sad, they use to be a great iconic guitar, even back in the sixties you might have had to sift through a few of them to find a good one, but when you did, it was a beautiful thing! Nowadays they're way over priced and the QC is terrible.

And then they start pushing crap like this. Really? Would you pay almost $4500.00 for this??

It definitely is a shame to see. I don't agree with your assessments at all that they are overpriced or lacking in quality (I would argue the opposite actually but that's a different conversation) but the fact remains that HJ has made some horrible business decisions that have nothing to do with their core business, which is building guitars, that have pulled the company down. Now the piper needs paying and all we can do is hope that the guitar portion of it remains when the dust has settled.

As for the Modern V, I personally like it. A lot actually. I think it's good to see them do something new and different instead of just re-releasing the past, but unfortunately for them it will just be met with scorn precisely because it is new and not based on the past. The price is right for a Custom Shop guitar. If they made a USA version it would probably be a $1500 guitar.

We do already have a recent discussion on that. Let's just hope that the new owners will have enough insight to understand that a large stock of old wood is an essential asset for that kind of business that cannot be replaced by a just in time supply chain - and that "Gibson made in USA" is more than final mounting of some main components produced in their Chinese factory.

EVERY guitar playing Start trek geek will HAVE to have one

Chinese NEW YEAR edition ---year of the dog--

It's a collector model that they are going to build a handful of and sell quickly for full price. They make these sorts of things all the time and they are obviously not for mass consumption. This is not a good example of Henry J flailing around with bad ideas because they will actually make a lot of money on these. An example of a terrible idea would be forcing the robo-tuners and wider necks on everyone in 2015, or trying to turn Gibson in a "lifestyle" brand.

BUt........I like my Robotuners and wider neck---and ZERO nut---- its one of my favoritest guitars ----

But you are in a distinct minority. It's not they they made the changes, its that they made the universal and didn't provide buyers a choice. They learned their lesson and from 2016 on they have had the T and HP line, which is what they should have done from the start.

The Gibson name is worth too much to disappear off the earth but not worth enough to keep it from being moved to China. I am not sure how this all works but if Gibson takes a dirt nap Epiphone will still be with us. I love my Gibsons and I mostly play them on stage. I go to hear a band one thing I judge them by is their gear. I can predict that they will suck if I don't see any Gibson Guitars on stands. I have always been correct, off brand stuff sounds bad. People that know live music ask me what I play and Gibson is always the correct answer. So many great names have been moved to China and we all know they ain't the same.

In agreement and I can say with certainty that if they end up made in Asia I have bought my last new Gibson.

Im guessing there are enough old Gibsons ----and possibly a DUMPING of them on the marketing after a dirt nap ----would mean I could have MANY---or not--- who knows
