I have written exactly three prescriptions for pain killers in the last 23 months. I send people to a pain clinic. The doctors I work with demand their people are fully educated on pain meds. Many of these people should not have extended pain treatmen. The street sales of medicine is the root of addiction. Stolen and illegal scripts and I hate to say stupidity. They have no clue as to the power of some of these meds. Candy is all but impossible to get. I know there are doctors that don't follow the law and they are getting weeded out in fine order.
Wow. An educated doc !! Will not repeat my above post. In Texas, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get pain meds. I can't imagine it being easy anywhere because of the DEA. Actually, I exaggerated-I was never on fentanyl WITH all the rest. I would say that's a diff category. I have been on hydromorphone, flexeril, morphine, antidepressants, all at the same time. And in Texas you have to go to the specialist every single month, get pissed, talked to, and handed a 30 day script. If there's any weed in your urine, you're outta there. Unreal. I wish everyone, esp docs, would realize the large variance among individuals. I have been so miserable, and meds so hard to get, I have considered the street. I have never done it, not even as a kid, except for weed, which even Texas will legalize soon. I have to travel 250 miles one way, every month, if I want any pain meds. I have medicare and medicaid, and this BS of making meds that you need to have a life (I never got high off of them-they all went to the pain) so hard to get, is not the answer. I have degrees in biology, chemistry, psychology, and criminology, and I believe this is a health issue, not a legal one. I have a roomful of MRIs, and I can only possibly get help. DEA = law, not health. Doctors won't prescribe, because they would prefer to keep their licences, and earn an honest living; the government will not let them. It sucks, and it's so simple.
