A Tale of Two Crises: GAS or Mod Fever

So, we all know what GAS is - Gear Acquisition Syndrome. It is that condition of being unable to shake the desire to obtain some type of music gear.

We also all know what Mod Fever is - that urge to modify a piece of musical equipment that we own.

Alas, my brethren and sistren, I am in a straight betwixt two. I am afflicted simultaneously with both GAS and Mod Fever.

On the one hand, there is the GAS - I really want an EQ pedal, a clean boost pedal, and most importantly, I really, REALLY want a Mesa Rectoverb 25 amplifier (thanks @gball for bringing that little hunk of love to my attention!).

On the other hand, there is the Mod Fever - I have plans to modify two of my guitars in a way that includes a router and drill. The mod to one of those guitars has something to do with the number, "three" (I hold @Hackmaster responsible for that!). How many of you know that the more drastic the mod, the harder it is to shake the desire to do it!

Ah well, such are the crises of a guitar player's life.

Whatever shall I do....

I feel your pain. It like a Trojan virus, it just spreads and spreads in every direction. I love it........:celebrate2:

I just ordered two Retrotrons ---I TOTALLY BLAME HACKMASTER....after his Gretsch .......the Dean Semi Hollow just seems to say ---PLEASE put THOSE in ME
 
You know you're in trouble when you buy planning to mod. I found some mids for a lower priced Boss pedal. I buy them used. There is a bunch of mods for that one pedal.

Yup. And when it comes to modding, I am totally willing to put the Ferrari engine in the Ford F-150, so to speak.

"Ferrari engine in the Ford F-150" funny.
Some years back I had a hot sports bike, I fitted touring saddle bags for practical reasons. Funniest comment I got was, "If you had a Ferrari, would you fit a tow-bar and roof-racks?".
 
I feel for you. I also suffer such afflictions. I am the king of half finished projects and am always looking for new to me gear. Be strong. There is hope.
 
Mod first. Then say
A. That job would have cost a TON if I had paid someone to do it
B. I wonder what this wonderful three pup guitar would sound like through the right amp, with the perfect EQ
C. It would be a shame not to find out after all that work
D. Hey, with all the money I just saved on this mod, I can get a Mesa and a pedal!!
 
I have done a few mods but nothing to serious. I am like Tony, I enjoy what I have and there is no need to mod. I play at home alone so they suit me just fine without to many mods.

I have an idea for you, or anybody. take apart about 3 guitars, put the pieces on large table of floor, mix em around with your eyes closed, like a jigsaw puzzle, open your eyes, or not, and make 3 builds. At this point you may get out drill, etc, after you sit in your chair and check the possibilities. Any good?
 
Are you kidding me, I'm the type of guy that takes something apart and puts it back together just to discover there is a extra bolt laying there. I can put them together the first time but after that........................:D

Sounded good to me. Who is scared to do a setup. Pocket parts. Nothing more odious.
