Broke a String:

Broke the high 'e' on my double neck (6 string side) after a couple hours of jamming this morning.

Interesting to note that it broke between the bridge and nut...

Guess that step and a half bend at the 20th is a bit much????

Man, I haven't broken a string in at least a decade, the strings now are light-years better than what we had back in the day, even in the '90's. Maybe it was a bad one, came out of the pack pitted or something?

Could be! I don't mind. String had about 8 hours on it

I haven't broke an Ernie Ball in years. These are D'Addario.

That may explain it. Man, I hate D'Addario strings. You can always tell immediately too when you buy another brand but they were actually manufactured by D'Addario - they have that family "feel" to them that I can't stand. Boomers for me, been using them exclusively for 7-8 years and have never broken a single one.

I would. D'Addario's are really inconsistent in feel and tension, tend to break, and worst of all they sound "zingy."
And though a small thing I can't stand those dumb color-coded ball ends. They not only look stupid but are completely unnecessary.

Good advice. I have no experience with anything else but Ernie Ball. They have treated me pretty good and the factory is not far from here...

I don't know if the colored ball ends are still made this way, but at one time the colored ends were plastic. I actually had a string slice through the ball end. It's like breaking a string...without breaking a string.

I can't remember braking a string playing. I had trouble installing number 7s on a strange guitar a few weeks ago. It wasn't my guitar and the lady was a very pissed off guy. I wasn't the first guy to try to change her stings that night. I did set her action low before the trouble started.

I'm gonna echo gball on this...
I have had extremely frequent failures with D'addario strings. Usually broken in much the way you've mentioned. On multiple guitars, with multiple bridge designs.
Yuck.

The EB .010" seems easier to bend than the D'Addario .010"

I'm ready to go on my Les Paul's, I kill the strings when I am working. Normally I play Friday and Saturday nights, the crowds have been really big since September. I really get into playing with screaming drunk or stoned people having fun. I put Rev Willy's 7's on the guitars with locking tuners. I beat on those and they are extremely strong, at first I was nervous because the number 7 is very hard to see but it just won't break no matter how mean I get. My tone is not changed by the very light strings, my band people had no clue I changed till Tia borrowed one of my Strats. She was surprised and uses 8's now.

I hate few things in life but strings makers that just lump the strings in a ball with little or no separation. D'Addario is a pain to even pull apart and the coloured balls are for the mentally weird. I am mentally weird but not enough to like coloured balls.

Nice! I am surprised to learn your tone was unchanged!
