Oops. Rough spot on a fret?
Man, I haven't broken a string in at least a decade, the strings now are light-years better than what we had back in the day, even in the '90's. Maybe it was a bad one, came out of the pack pitted or something?
I haven't broke an Ernie Ball in years. These are D'Addario.
I'm gonna echo gball on this...I haven't broke an Ernie Ball in years. These are D'Addario.

I have had extremely frequent failures with D'addario strings. Usually broken in much the way you've mentioned. On multiple guitars, with multiple bridge designs.
Yuck.
Wow!!!
Maybe it's time to go back to Ernie????
Thanks for the input!!!
I would. D'Addario's are really inconsistent in feel and tension, tend to break, and worst of all they sound "zingy."
And though a small thing I can't stand those dumb color-coded ball ends. They not only look stupid but are completely unnecessary.

I have been using Ernie Ball 8s for years now. I never break them and I really pound them on my Strat. I'm ready to go on my Les Paul's, I kill the strings when I am working. Normally I play Friday and Saturday nights, the crowds have been really big since September. I really get into playing with screaming drunk or stoned people having fun. I put Rev Willy's 7's on the guitars with locking tuners. I beat on those and they are extremely strong, at first I was nervous because the number 7 is very hard to see but it just won't break no matter how mean I get. My tone is not changed by the very light strings, my band people had no clue I changed till Tia borrowed one of my Strats. She was surprised and uses 8's now.View attachment 10376 I have been using Ernie Ball 8s for years now. I never break them and I really pound them on my Strat.
