Gahr
Ambassador of Blues & Brews
Today was my last day off before going back to work after a long Christmas holiday. My kids were in school, and my wife at work, so I spent the day at home alone, messing around with GarageBand for the first time. I didn't plan anything, I just wanted to check out some of the most basic functions. I ended up recording a short blues clip (big surprise...).
The drums are from GB. The bass and two guitars were all played through my 10 watt 1965 Gibson GA-5. The bass is my Epiphone EB-0, set up with D'addario flatwounds, both guitars are my Derek Trucks SG.
I recorded the bass and guitars with my son's Røde NT-USB microphone, placed slightly off axis about 50 cm (that's about 1.5' for you 'Murcans) away from the speaker.
All tracks are first take, I didn't have enough time to mess around with trying to perfect anything.
Bass is panned slightly to the left, rhythm guitar to the right. I added a bit of compression when mastering and exported the track to iTunes, then uploaded it to Soundcloud.
If anybody has any tips for Getting the most out of GarageBand, feel free to comment. This won't be the last time I play with it, but I hope to be able to record with our drummer, instead of just using the drums from GB.
