School me on guitar stings

my guiatr came with 9-42 i do know 9 is the small e and 42 is the low e
The strings on my other strat and les paul is 10 -46 10 small e 46 low e
Now might wanna try another string gauge 10-50 light the eric johnson set??
Now i know the 10 is high e and now the low e is 50 so is 50 lighter then 10 guage string??
So the higher the number the on the strings means lighter gauge thanks

Do not confuse the "9" or the "10" or whatever the case may be, with wire gauge. These numbers are NOT a wire gauge rating, as you may expect in the case of the AWG (American Wire Gauge) rating system.

When we talk about guitar string thickness, we may refer to the string as a "9" but that number is shorthand for its actual thickness. The "9" is short for .009 inch...or nine thousandths of an inch. Likewise, a "10" is .010 inch, or ten thousandths of an inch, and so on.

Exactly! I guess it's the diameter. The 50 would be a little heavier.

I run fender bullet 9-42s on my Strats. Then mostly D'Addario 10-46s on the rest of my electrics except one, it has D'Addario 11s on it. The 2 acoustics, I put D'Addario 13s on 'em.
