I'm worried about using anything that will get in the pores and leave a white or other color residue.

I'm seriously thinking of using a synthetic car wax, but I'm worried it might make the guitar slippery...

The only FLITZ product I'm familiar with is their "rifle,gun& knife wax". Very versatile non-abrasive type of wax.
