Arena Rock Cover Band:

Well, I did not get the gig, but they did get a very, very good guitar player. I really liked their band and the overall feel, so it was a little disappointing because I do not 'love' my current assignment as a bassist and would have really 'loved' working for them. Anyways, they have engagements coming up on the 25th and 27th - the same dates as my current band - and I told them this in advance, so that might have had some bearing on their decision...but I wouldn't feel right dumping my current band 2 days before a show....

Thanks...I am still looking...just hard to find a group that plays the wildly diverse music I like.

Here's a setlist from when I had my own band back many years ago:

ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE (Scorpions)
CUTS LIKE A KNIFE (Bryan Adams)
YOU'VE GOT ANOTHER THING COMIN' (Judas Priest)
RUN TO THE HILLS (Iron Maiden)
HOLY DIVER (Dio)
BIG CITY NIGHTS (Scorpions)
ROAD TO HELL (Rory Gallagher)
HERE I GO AGAIN (Whitesnake)
COLD DAY IN HELL (Gary Moore)
THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO ROCK (Sammy Hagar)
YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG (AC/DC)
ACE OF SPADES (Motorhead)
SUMMER OF '69 (Bryan Adams)
MILLION MILES AWAY (Rory Gallagher)
SHOT DOWN IN FLAMES (AC/DC)
MAMA I'M COMING HOME (Ozzy)
WHY ME? (Planet P Project)
HOTEL CALIFORNIA (Eagles)
HUMANITY (Scorpions)

If this setlist looks like one of your homemade CD's, then you will understand how crazy my musical tastes are...

This band is the closest to this level of diversity that I have found yet.

I get paid well where I am now, and I do enjoy the blues and the other members, but its not my first love...and I want to go back to playing what I really love...

Can you dig it???

So, the audition was held on May 20th and they got two shows coming up May 25 and May 27. I think perhaps me being up front about my current band's upcoming performances - both in direct conflict with theirs - might...might have moved me off the table. I got really positive feedback from the band, so I am going to stay in touch with them...this is their 3rd rhythm guitarist in less than 5 months or so. Something tells me I haven't heard the last of these dudes...

I have always thought that being in a band looks better when you are looking for a band to join...like being currently employed when looking for work...but I am starting to rethink that. I think I would have likely been hired if I wasn't tied to my current band, so I'm thinking maybe I should gracefully bow out to be ready to accept possible future opportunities.

Thoughts???

Deaths 100
Non-fatal injuries 230
The Station nightclub fire occurred on Thursday, February 20, 2003, in West Warwick, Rhode Island, killing 100 people and injuring 230. The fire was caused by pyrotechnics set off by the tour manager of the evening's headlining band Great White, which ignited plastic foam used as sound insulation in the walls and ceilings surrounding the stage. A fast-moving fire with intense black smoke engulfed the club in 5½ minutes. Video footage of the fire shows its ignition, rapid growth, the billowing smoke that quickly made escape impossible, and the exit blockage that further hindered evacuation.[1] The toxic smoke, heat, and the resulting human crush toward the main exit killed 100; 230 were injured and another 132 escaped uninjured. Many of the survivors developed posttraumatic stress disorder as a result of psychological trauma.[2]

It was the fourth-deadliest nightclub fire in US history, killing 100 people, and the second deadliest in New England, surpassed by the 1942 Cocoanut Grove fire which resulted in 492 deaths.

Yes. Jack Russell is the band's original lead singer.

The band just announced their drummer is leaving....For some reason, I keep thinking I may eventually end up playing for these guys. They are a great bunch of dudes...

Funny thing...I auditioned for this band on May 20, 2017. Following my audition, the band underwent several lineup changes.

In November of 2019, the bandleader contacted me on Facebook about joining this band. We met - along with our wives - at Famous Dave's to discuss the possibilities.

At the time, I was working full time as a founding member of Fire Control Band.

As we discussed plans to create a new variation of this band, I asked, "So when is the audition?"

The bandleader replied, "Dude!!! It was back in May of 2017 and you got the part!"

We joined forces with a handshake and I left Fire Control to devote 100% of my time and effort to this new project.

Here was our first rehearsal on February 9, 2020, during the audition of a drummer and lead vocalist:

The drummer (pictured above) didn't like the genre variations of our proposed setlists and decided to move on. We kept the bassist and the vocalist. We added another guitarist and drummer and short time later, to complete the new lineup.

The bandleader is pictured here wearing shades in this photo taken two weeks ago:

And here we are - with family in tow - during our dinner night/business meeting at Black Angus Steakhouse Tuesday night:

So, looking back to my above quoted post from December 7, 2017...I guess the "hunch" that I would end up in this band was right... :)
