ANYONE HERE have Carpal Tunnel surgery performed???

Did it help?

Was it worth the $$

After taking on a second outside sales position back in Sept. I am now averaging 8-17 hours on line --- A DAY---juggling 3 computers --- and it is REALLY flaring up my carpal tunnel

This not NEW
I did 15 years in screen printing industry --- broke my left wrist once right wrist twice (in my youth --motorcycles and a skateboard) compounding arthritis and carpal tunnel has required I wear braces to sleep or my hands go numb and ache......been doing that over a decade....

now--- its just come to a head......3 months of this level of use and its now affecting my guitar playing ---TIME TO TAKE ACTION!
Pain is one thing --- but reduced ability to PLAY GUITAR-----
awh HELL NO!!

I discovered this --- link below---which SEEMS all rosey easy cheap and FUN almost --- BUT has anyone or anyone any of you know done this procedure?

i knew a few people that worked at the papermill i worked at had the surgery. In the early days of that mill the was lots of repititous production work going.

I'm going through the same pain as you Adrian. After my new insurance kicks in I'm going to have it looked at.

I have it. My hands goes numb at times. I have a lot of pain. It affects my playing, but I keep playing. I guess you get to a point where you have to do something about it.

Yeah mine is starting to cause the pinky and ring finger on the left hand to "drag" and or not LIFT off the strings --- also the ring finger is developing a "hammer" action it will NOT smoothly press the string as I got to depress the string it clicks and SLAMS down ....

in short loosing "subtle dexterity" which is fine for bass to a point---- lol --- but its getting damned ANNOYING -- pus multiple advil a day USED to make it tolerable now--- not .

Good luck hope you find a workable solution.
Have you tried a vertical mouse, wrist pad, alternating left and right hand mousing?
You probably have I suppose.

I use a combo of all the above and it helps.
I moved the right mouse and pad over a bit to fit in the pic.

Was it worth the $$[/B]

I had "De Quervain syndrome" similar problem, thumb to wrist rather than fingers. Surgery fixed it, no more pain.
My mum has had both left and right surgery for Carpal Tunnel, total success.
The pain we both had would make it worth any amount of $ to correct, fortunately it is free (well tax funded) in Australia.
In short it works, you have to decide the pain to $ value.

Ring finger left hand.
I put it off for about 10 years as it slowly got worse and worse.
(I was afraid that if they botched it my guitar playing would be no more.)
When it got to the point where I could no longer play a G chord I got it fixed.
(Nothing to lose at that point so may as well give it a shot, couldn't play anyway)
The surgery was done with a local anesthetic and took 4 minutes and 35 seconds.
I had it done on a Thursday and played a job the following Tuesday.

Great info.
and to answer the early question Tony yes, and I use the wrist "pads" for each key board and finally gave in and wore the "sleeping braces" most of the day today --

that is 4 less advil I took so -- WIN -- :)

No I never had that removed. It's always swollen and I pick at it but I am enjoy it too much. Like that little out break in Africa. Fun but nothing to really speak of.

I think you need to figure out if the pain is caused by carpal tunnel, post fracture arthritis, a general arthritic condition, all of the above or something else before you start contemplating surgery and what that would entail.
