New Case Day: Fender Pro Series Tweed

I ordered a Pro Series Tweed case for Jessica.

She came in the 2013 SKB molded case, which I do like and will keep for gigs and longer road trips.
It's a very good case but I've always felt that an American Stratocaster deserves a classier case.

Here it is:

My review:

- The case is light, about the same weight as the SKB.

- The strat fits PERFECTLY, doesn't have the slightest gap. The neck sits tight and the guitar doesn't move around when you carry the case. Even the SKB has a minimum gap. This one has a perfect fit.

- The overall quality isn't the same as in an older G&G tweeder, the ones I've held before felt better, especially the plastic handle, the latches and the leather parts, which feel a bit cheap. But people say that the newer G&Gs are just the same, though I can't tell, never had one of the new ones in my hands.

In a sum, I'm satisfied. It is a "modern classic" case for a "modern classic" guitar. It's classy enough.

Yes.

However, I must say that it is NOT a heavy duty case. The handle and latches are definitely weak and the case will look trashed if you gig with it for a year or even less. That's why I'm keeping the SKB.

This one is for home storage and lighter trips to friends' places, studios and other places where you can give it a more civil treatment. It's a beautiful case, classy and cool, but that's about it.

But it holds the guitar well and is lightweight, so it's worth what is costs. It's cheaper than a G&G, after all...

I have it, but never use it.

I play my strats as hardtails, but keep the bridges floating in order to preserve the chime that the springs add to the tone

Yeah, it's a premium case to be bought and kept mostly for its looks (which I find reason enough). Just not for heavy duty gigging/travelling.

Strange how we see things differently, my Jeff Beck Strat came in one of those tweed cases. I removed the guitar, put the tweed case back into the cardboard Fender box and contemplated selling it. I decided to store instead, if I ever sell the guitar I can unload the original undesirable tweed case and keep my lovely new SKB molded case :-)
Who's right ... neither of us, we are just different.

Didn't mean to get on your case about your case, just in case you thought otherwise.... because that just wasnt the case.
:confused:o_O:D

In any case, yes, nice case.

Is it a G&G or a Fender case?

Yes, the same case.

To each his own, I like the classic elegant vibe.

I even have the tweed strap too
