Collector goofiness. I have no doubt its a great guitar (if you like real thin-necked Les Pauls) but no better than any other CS Les Paul, and it's arguable that those are really better than a USA model, although different. These things aren't made for guys who just want to play a guitar and make music, they are aspirational purchases for collectors and fanboys.

Page's guitars have super-thin necks apparently. Like, they were actually shaved. But, he's a pretty tiny dude, probably has small mitts, so it seems to fit.

I don't really have a super strong preference. My meatiest neck is the one on my G&L ASAT, it's right about 1" at the thickest spot. My LP Trad and my PRS Mira are both just a bit smaller than that and my LP Custom has one of those tapered jobs they did in the 70's, from quite thin at the nut to really huge at the body. My G&L Legacy is your basic mid-size C profile bolt-on type of neck that probably 90% of all Strats have. My other Gibsons (SG and Firebird) have slim-tapers and I like them just fine, vive la difference, you know.

I struggle to play on those thin necks...I thought all Firebird were 50's profile???

Only the Custom Shop ones. Those CS 'birds have the biggest necks of any Gibson I have ever played.

The Gibson USA ones are slim-taper. And the Firebird profile is a bit flatter than what they use on the SG's and Les Pauls, so it feels even thinner. I don't really mind different neck sizes and profiles, but I will say that if I could have the same profile on every guitar it would be the late '50's profile on my Les Paul Traditional, it's right about or maybe just under .900.

I like super thins necks --- all mine have them ---and at 6' 200lbs size XXl riding glove-- I dont think I fall under the "little dude" category LOL
if they have fat necks I cant play em due to arthritis and carpal tunnel. ---

Ive always kind if liked the Firebird but never played one.

They are like a drug. Nothing like them anywhere else; the combination of the neck-through and those pickups is singular. And they are HUGE so for us big guys it's the only guitar that looks like it belongs on you! You really need to play one Robert.

I might have too!

Robin Crosby favored them for their size.

Edit: and speaking of the pickups, they are super, super-hot (like in the 20K range) so just right for you!
