Ok I have decided that the Vox AC15 is not exactly what I want. Dont know that I want to go back to a Fender. I do want a tube / valve for our Limey friends, past that I am not sure. I do not need a lot of power since I do not gig out. Used is not out of the picture either. Just not sure where to start.

Whatcha playin? Style wise?

Little rock, little blues, little of my own garbage.

What's the budget? Combo or head? Versatile or simple?

Budget up to 650-700 gotta be a combo.

I have an extra Silkyn 50w tube amp. Wanna trade?

Not familiar with the Silkyn. Let me look around at them and see what they are about. A trade always sounds good.

Oh and the controls have to be on the front not the top.

HEHE Chas, it does have the 1/4 power switch taking it down to 25 watts if you pull tubes.

I just run it on Hi,,,,,,,, It was a hard to beat amp for the $$$ I paid.

Good luck finding your gem you seek, Chas.

I was hunting for Fender amps like a Bassman, Twin, Twin Reverb, Hot Rod Deville, etc and was open to any good deal on one.
In my case, craigslist was my friend and I found this good condition Red Knob for less than 1/2 what a new 59 Bassman LTD was going for in my mom n pop shop back around 2007 or so.

What you really need to know: Silkyn amps are the brain child of a Gibson Executive that decided to make his own amplifier line and present them at a NAMM show. He used quality components such as Eminence speakers, high efficiency tubes, and a foot switch to create a 50 watt American made monster that would sound great clean, or dirty. Long story short, he produced a high quality tube amp that sounds a lot like an Egnater with better clean tones in my opinion.

A three band EQ on each channel feeds six meticulously tested 12AX7 pre-amp tubes, capable of shaping tone to satisfy even the most demanding ear. The power section drives two high efficiency 6L6 power tubes, cranking 50 watts into a 12 inch Eminence Legend loudspeaker.

  • The combination of two channels, independent tone controls, dual channel reverb, and monster power give this amplifier its unparalleled versatility.
  • The Silkyn Super 50 Guitar Amplifier is a two channel, 50 watt, Class A/B, tube-based guitar amplifier in a 1 x 12" combo cabinet. It is intended for the semi-professional or professional musician who values the tonal versatility of having both a clean channel and an overdrive channel, each with expanded EQ and Reverb capability.
  • RATED POWER: 50 W rms into 16 Ohms. Power Consumption: 150 Watts max, 120VAC, 60Hz. RECTIFIER: Solid state full wave rectifier for extended bass response. Tube Compliment: 6 x 12AX7 (pre-amp), 2 x 6L6GC (power amp).
  • REVERB: Tube driven mechanical spring reverb active on both channels. DIMENSIONS: 21.25"x10"x20.25". WEIGHT: 58.3lbs.
  • OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
  • Your Silkyn Super 50 is a two-channel guitar amp. The Clean channel delivers clear sound. The dirty channel is a overdrive channel

The Silkyn may sound a bit over the top with a spec of 50 watts...but it is a way different animal when compared to an EL84 amp. It's creamy smooth cleans play nice with every dirtbox I've had the pleasure of throwing in front of it. It can do low volume if needed, but it's really happy in a live situation, at a volume that's competitive with a drummer.
It doesn't have to be too loud to sound great though.

It's in my top three, of amps I've ever owned...

BTW, ChasFred this amp is new, in the box still with the plastic, foot pedal and all. I did unpack it once, plug it in and made sure it played, then packed it up for a future purpose that never arose. This one is all stock, however there is a great deal of information available on mods that can be done to it. If it were not for the fact that I own a second Silkyn amp, I would not part with it.
