...after Photobucket committed suicide by charging users for third party hosting?

I refuse to pay so much money for such a basic function, so I lost virtually all my pic uploads in guitar forums, I had them all up my PB account.

I tried:

Flickr, but it's too complicated and non organized.

Imgur, I'm still using it but it works kinda like a social network. I uploaded come pics to post here and in a couple os hours there were several "likes" and "dislikes" and comments. One guy even said that my GF was cute and congratulated me. No. Thanks.

Where are you guys hosting your pics?

I used to use Photobucket, too.

For this forum, I use the image hosting feature of the TTR Forum, itself, and upload the images right here.

I also have a Flickr account. It is weird in the way it creates albums. It took me awhile to figure it out. It kind of works backwards from other image hosts.

I also have an Imgur account, but I have everything set to Private so no one can see my images. Just go in and set your privacy settings. You have to be careful about using Imgur, though. Awhile back they changed their terms of use. Whereas they do allow you to post on forums, they no longer allow posting to forums with a Classifieds Section. If they discover that is happening, they will block all image links from the ENTIRE domain. What that means is that if Imgur discovers you've linked to them, and if the forum you linked from (TTR, for example) has a Classifieds section, they'll block the entire forum domain, so no images anywhere on the forum that are linked back to Imgur will show.

I use Imgur. If you don't want people randomly looking at your pictures just go to "Settings" and choose "Hidden" under "Default Album Privacy"

I just found a higher level protection of "Secret" Only you can see you images and you must be logged in to view them.

I'm testing to see if I can still post and see a secret image...

I just started using Imgur as well. Does what you are saying mean that we are all effed with regards to Imgur if they find out that one of us is posting images here?

Yes. If Imgur discovers the hotlinking of an image from a type of website that violates the terms of service, the entire website is blocked, not just that single user. How they would find out is another question.

But, again, posting from a forum is okay. They just don't want to be linked from a forum with a classifieds section...which means TTR would be one of those they would block.

The quote below is from the Imgur Community site, which is sort of their support forum. In this post, an answer is being provided to a user whose images were blocked from a forum, the Garage Journal Forum. The user's images were blocked because that forum features a classifieds section, which Imgur considers to be advertising, and Imgur's TOS prohibit hotlinking for advertising purposes.

Hi there Sixfeet4,

Within our TOS, we do not allow the usage of imgur as a content delivery network on any site that has a section dedicated to selling. This is considered advertising. (much like eBay is blocked as well).

I do apologize for this inconvenience. I look forward to seeing you further within the community.

Best,
Isaac K.

Bummer, thanks for the reply. What do you mean by "because there is a classified section"?

Hi Sixfeet4,

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately that site has been blocked from hotlinking due to multiple instances of abuse of Imgur's terms of service. The terms of service can be found at Imgur. We don't allow hotlinked images being used as content for other websites. Because there is a classified section, we are unable to remove the blockage.

We suggest using another site that does allow being used as a content delivery network. I apologize for the confusion. Please let me know if I can help further.

Best,
Isaac K"

...
It's easy to find out where the site is being hot linked from. I can could check my log files to see this information if I so desired.

True. But, they wouldn't know this site has a classifieds section unless they actually visited the site and looked for one, correct?
