Relocated Stratocaster Knobs:

Thinking about doing this to my old Squire, but keeping it's original "E7" serial number. Just dig the black cuz' it matches the (current) black pickguard...

Thoughts???

Knob Re-Position...What do you think????

Since the knobs are in a straight line rather than being arranged in a slight arc, I'd think the test would come with the ergonomics of playing. A lot will depend on the angle you hold the guitar. The bottom tone knob may be slightly obscured by the knobs above it.

For me, I do like having the knobs arranged in the stock form - in a slight arc - as it places the bottom tone knob in a position for better access. But, that's the way it is with me and how the guitar hangs on me. Your experience may be different from mine.

HATE STRAT KNOBS.......HATE EM.......

only need 1 nice and roomy for long tentacle like fingers.......

As for the decal --- DO IT.........I'll be adding a nice gold fender decal to the thing in the pic above --- not sure WTF it is--- I think it was a Squire .......no proof.....I have contemplated a FENDER scypt custom decal .......may Tutankhamun.....or Boy King -O Caster ..... OR Power Slave! (homage to Iron Maiden ) ----or.......or .....eh. f it

Yes. I'm not 100% sure I'm digging the look, but my original reason for moving the volume knob was to enable the use of trim rings on the bridge pickup.

The lowermost knob is in its original position.

You can see the original holes here:

I don't think the look is necessarily bad; it almost instantly strikes me as being a non-original layout, but that's not the most critical part. I'd be a little concerned about less clearance between the knobs since they are closer together.

One of my many experiments. I'm a bloody idiot...who else designs a logo and builds 25 guitars just to have my name on them???

It works for me, but Fender amp knobs are what it's begging for...
Just my opinion. Not much different from what's on there.
A subtle but discernible difference.

That is great! My biggest problem with a Strat is hitting the volume knob. I normally have my little finger around it but it still gets a slap here and there. I tried a small knob and that just freaked me out. When I put my hand down there it was like she got shaved. I put the original knob back on.
The stage area is dim and where I play is very dark. I don't mind sticking my fingers in dark places but finding a weird thing and it little and slippery wet from sweat is not to my liking.

The Schecter has the perfect knob placement. I can perform effortless volume swells on it...

I am not automatic with the Gibsons, I need to thing of what I am doing. That can take away from the performance, not a good distraction. Being too comfortable with an instrument can take away from your sharpness. I did stuff to prevent me from not thinking about the effects knobs. Nothing will keep me from a volume blast or a shut down of sound, that is the way it goes and I just need to pay attention to every thing I'm doing. Moving knobs and different pick guards don't get it. I even turned my one Strat into a Les Paul JR. My toilet seat blue one that matched her eyes.
