The Tube Screamer has a drive knob, a tone knob, and a level knob. The drive knob adjusts gain, the tone knob adjusts treble and the level knob adjusts the output volume of the pedal. The pedal is used to try to mimic the sound of a vintage tube amplifier. The classic Tube Screamer sound includes a "mid-hump", which means that the circuit accentuates frequencies between the bass and treble ranges (mid-frequencies). Some guitarists prefer this sort of equalization, as it helps to keep their sound from getting lost in the overall mix of the band.

Unless I am confused, I'd think it would give the pups output more balls not a thinner ummm.

Thank you. To move the neck pup would change the sound from what you would expect from an SG as it would be under a different segment of strings.

Yup Ray, that's why I asked the question. Early SG's had necl pups practically up against fretboard and larger distance between neck n bridge pups, While yours brings the 2 pups closer to one another.

I voted uncovered because you have dot inlays and the exposed screws and slugs will tie in visually. Had you inlays of the trapezoidal variety I would have voted covered but unsure with or without rings. Probably without because of the pickguard.

My chain is the same since the 1980's/1990's:

CS3/GE7/DD3/NS2
So you have tried many amps and changed just about every part on your guitars in search of the tone in your head, but you never experimented with your pedal board? You are missing many possibilities, not to mention loads of fun!

I have always styed pretty basic I suppose....

Ray, I wonder why they didn't put that neck pickup tight to the neck instead of making that 1 off type pickup ring? It is a cool looking ring, but I still wonder why. PS. That has always been one of the sickest SG's I have seen.

That's just the tenon cover. They've been doing it that way since 1961:
