Hijacked Dave's Thread SO, Roland JC 120, cube etc amps anyone?

A little Bonus as I was searching for good clips of the JC160, I heard a lick in one clip that reminded me of Angie from the Stones.
I never heard this live version, but I rather like it. Very nicely done.

I played 11 years of fund raisers, dinner dances and
weddings with a JC-77, 5 Boss pedals and an SG.
The JC is on long term loan to Tone House Studio.
I still have a cube 60, a cube 30 and 2 micro cubes.
They are scattered all over Brooklyn and Queens in various
places I frequent with a guitar and a few pedals.

Tony, I seem to remember you saying that about the scattering. My first Roland amp experience was when I was buying a guitar off a guy when we met at a gas station and he had a Micro cube I think. That thing could run on battery power. I almost bought one elsewhere just for that convenience of cordless operation.

What are those Roland speakers? Does Roland rebrand a certain kind or do they make their own?

I'm not sure who makes Roland speakers but IMHO
they vary in sound quality from model to model.
My JC-77 and Micro cubes have their originals in
them but the cube 30 & 60 both needed speaker
upgrades (which greatly improved their sound).

The Cube 60 (one of the original orange colored ones)
got some random Celestion I had laying around and
the Cube 30 got an Eminence Ragin' Cajun.

I guess I'm a fan... I own a Roland Micro cube (which hasn't gotten much play since I bought my little Orange Micro Terror...) but my main work horse is a Roland Cube Bass CB-60XT. That small
powerhouse does just about everything I need done.

The feature I like best on it is how good it sounds... I was always a "gotta have a 15 inch speaker
or ya ain't sh*t" kind of a bass player. But that was just a young man's arrogance and stupidity.
Now I know better, so I sold my Fender Bassman Compact to a young guy and carry my Roland CB-60 in and out of the venue one handed. The amp has lots of models I'll never use, but it has two that I like very much. The controls work, and I like a couple of the effects on their LOWEST setting.

The two features I like second best on it are the ports on the front face and the XLR output on the
back. For small venues, the little Roland can do the room. For larger venues, plug it into the P.A.
let the sound man mix it and it sounds huge. So if I can do small rooms and larger stages with an amp that fits comfortably behind the driver's seat in my mini van, I'm happy.

The feature that I like best on the Roland Micro Cube is the "JC Clean" model. To me, that sounds
beautiful. I've used this little Roland as a guitar amp, by sitting it on top of a 450W powered P.A. speaker, and plugged in with a 1/4" two foot cable. My Gibson SG sounds lovely when played clean through this rig, and if I want to get dirty, I can stomp my blues driver.

This is still true, even though I'm now more enamored of the tones from my Black Heart Little Giant, and the above mentioned Orange Micro Terror. Fickle, fickle me.

Thanks for a posting a Johnny DeMarco video!!! I am feeling tired after lugging my gear back from band practice and needed a good laugh!!!

Thank you, bro Tony That sounds like a pretty good lifespan. Here I thought it was like a cordless power tool, with Lithium Ion batteries or something.
