Pots and Caps

Hey all. I'm trying to find some decent pots and caps for my Aria Pro 2 bass. This bass originally had an active circuit, which was fried, so I have since stripped it out and replaced for standard pots and caps, but I think I am using the wrong ones.
Anyone know what pots and caps I should be using on a p/j bass?
I'm using 500k pots and .022uf caps at the moment, (an old SG wiring loom!) ;) but I'm just not getting any deep low end...

now that said--- my Rickenbastard has 500K pots.....and gets deep ritch THUD ---but I have Fender flatwounds on it......

250K and .068 orange drops --- Fender-ish yummy ness

ALSO --- what strings you got on it Alex?????

A set of "Light" Hartke strings. Can't recall the specific string gauges, but it was the only set I could get at short notice. They've lasted ages, and still sound good...

just curious on the strings....I use either fender flatwounds tapewounds or Daddario tapewounds seem to (IMHO) give a deeper richer fuller tone than round wounds .....easier to try than redoing pots and caps ;)

I heard so many things about caps! Oil filled orange drops and bumble bees. That is a we bit insane.
There is such a nothing between it all. I started with orange drops only because it sounds healthy.
Good as any when you really think of it. Oil can leak and a mess especially if it gets on your sea gull. Yes I have a Sea Gull made by our friend up north. Bumble bees sting and I hate poop that bites or the like. Orange drops for every one! Except one guy, I ran out! He had to have his guitar that night. I put a paper clip in it. I played it and I would have sold that guitar to my dear sweet sainted mother. I told him and asked him to bring it back. I called him in a week or two and he called just to tell me the guitar is fantastic and thank you doc. I only work one friends guitars and some of the local kids guitars. Kids are in college or most at least and I am trying to get rid of me friends by using trash from the floor. Cape do make a difference only if you don't know any better.

I've tried all of them...Greenies, Orange Drops, Tropical Fish, Bumblebees, Ceramic, you name it....never perceived a difference...and then I discovered the Russian K40Y PIO tone capacitors.

There was a distinct difference in tone when compared to the same value caps, of different construction. Also, on the same pot, the tonal spectrum is much more like a fine tuner....more gradual and never muddy even rolled all the way off.

I don't use anything else...with the .015uf being my favorite tone capacitor...

Do you put these in both humbuckers and single coil. I probably will but pots I am looking at numbers. I put 500 pots in my black Strat and the treble could have cut my head off.
Thank you for telling me of these. That Strat pissed me of in Paris many years ago, I think it called me a butt lump. So I took it apart, I put it together and now it doesn't say one word. I found a love note in French from this French chic. I don't read French, so just one more thing to drive me nuts.

I have been using them in everything, mainly because they don't get muddy even when rolled off...They are not expensive either!!!

Add a 220kΩ resistor between the pickup + lead at the volume pot and solder the other end to the pot. It will trim the brightness off any pickup. I learned this technique from lengthy conversations with Bill Lawrence....

You can see the modification here in my Gibson SG:

Robert that is fantastic work. I wrote down this information and of course I do thank you very much.
This will be very helpful.

I have the 220k resistors for when I make treble bleeds. At one point in time I could read the value by the rings on a resistor. Now I just look at the bag or a chart. Brain over load.

This is different than a treble bleed that uses a resistor and a capacitor...

IMG_5295.JPG Robert I thank you very much. I copied your drawing. I have some for old Telecasters, up to 1963 they used Black Guard. The neck pick up is not effected by the tone control. A beautiful pickup over shadowed by the bridge twang. I have that Black Guard on my Rose Wood Telecaster. I bought a surf green Tele and it's a good one. You know the ones that snap back and always have that Tele thing happening. It smells, feels and is 100% Tele. I work with the Surf Green because it is what it is, a good one.

I can't take credit for the sketch...that was drawn by Bill Lawrence himself.....NICE Guitars There!!!!!
