TTR Mug Shots

Working out some vocals with our lead singer in the side cover band, after practice today. The guys in the band (guitar, bass, drums) take lead vocals on a few songs to give her voice a break. In this case, it's the little-covered Tom Petty song "Room At The Top."

With Paula, my 2012 Les Paul Special.

"Giddy up, son..."

No, I genuinely can't remember what the occasion was, haha! It must have been a play on some song we were covering or was at least suggested. Best guess is it was for a ZZ Top number, though being beardless nobody would ever guess. Funny that, I have a strong 5 o'clock shadow and heavy stubble by the morning, but it doesn't seem to go (grow) much more than that. Haven't tried it in a decade or more, though. I'm certainly not able to sport a Billy type affair.

Could be worse! I had throat cancer like 16 years ago, and though I've been cancer free since (well, of throat cancer anyhow), the radiation fecked me up in any number of ways, permanently. Can't grow any whiskers on the left side of my face to this day.

Also, eventually, the radiation damage eventually caused my jaw to just snap in two on that side. No trauma to it, just weakened by radiation. Rebuilt with a hunk of bone from my hip. Then post-surgery the neck flesh wouldn't heal-- same reason, radiation damage. So my left pectoral muscled got flipped up from my chest to take its place.

It looks like crap. Scary. I cover it at gigs with scarves, shemaghs, etc. Fortunately the whiskers in the center of my face still grow, so I do have a goatee, only because it draws the eye away from the scary bit along my left jawline.

It's always something.

F, that's... rough, man. I'm sorry to hear about that, honestly. Cancer has taken a few from me including my old man, it's not a funny affair. As you said, if it doesn't get you hard, the treatment probably will. You have my respect for pulling through and carrying on. Cheers.

I'm just uh... ugly without a cause. :)

Sorry about your Dad. Yes, cancer killed my Da too, and my Mom has lost one whole lung, and has esophageal cancer being held at bay by some new med. My brother had testicular cancer years ago but is ok. In addition to the throat cancer, I had surgery for prostate cancer a year and a half ago. But cancer-free from that too. I'm a little too ornery to croak just yet.

I hope. ;)
