My first guitar was some sort of no-name Jaguar style POS that I got with an equally POS amp in trade for a BB gun.
Naturally, I tore it apart, made an S style body for it in shop class, and had my first guitar mod in short order.

Got an LP copy in college and traded the homie to my roommate for a set of stereo speakers.
Knocked that LP off a stand and snapped the head off.

Replaced the decapitated LP with the Hondo I've had since the late 80's, and still have.

That's awesome! When I was in high school, the only thing our shop teacher taught us how to do was all about how to go about bending sheet metal with a freaking hammer.

My high school had a decked-out wood shop and a super cool industrial arts teacher.
I took 2 years of his drafting classes also (mechanical & architectural).

If you took his classes to waste time, he'd give you stupid things to do.
If you had and plan and paid for the wood, you were on your own to build whatever you wanted.
That's how I got into building furniture (and apparently, guitars too...).

That's truly interesting. My old school (insert the Steely Dan tune) chose to draw a distinct difference between industrial arts classes and mechanical/architectural drafting classes.

You got lucky! You were in the right place at the right time!
