What Amp are you playing today?

Yeah, I don't do FB plus I'm in Europe so prices are probably a little higher as they're less common here. I generally try to snag stuff like that which is in need of service/repair. At a quick glance I can get an 80W 5150 head for 800 (Euros) new and a used combo for about 500, plus some 15W ones cheaper, but I'd be looking at the larger fixed bias models.

A 6505 goes for about 1K used, the only SLO's to be found 2nd hand are the mini's, which... yeah.
If you end up liking the SLO but can’t find what you want, check out the FAS by Ceriatone. I have the 100w unit with a couple add on’s and love mine. They are quite an amp that can do a lot of tones very well. They take pedals well too, or at least my HX Effects. I had a PPIMV added and it works great.

I've actually considered those. I'm perfectly capable of putting an amp together myself and I certainly have no qualms about buying a knock-off SLO [or kit], given their ridiculous pricing. I tend to go with 'the real deal' most of the time because it saves you that doubt in the back of your mind; "would the real one sound/do the same?", I'm sure you know what i mean. The main problem is shipping, which could easily amount to 500, plus whatever import duties the Brussellian Empire... eh, EU* impose. I recently got hit with a bill of nearly 300 for a Fender jack plug from the US. It ended up being the most expensive single connector I have ever privately purchased. They guesstimated the value at USD $1000... and obviously you can't argue or reason with them.

Assuming the FAS kit were about 1500, factoring in another 500+500 for shipping and tax we're at 2500. That's getting pretty close if not on target for a 2nd hand SLO if I'm lucky enough to find one. As a rule of thumb, any piece of kit that costs north of 1K had better grab me, blow my socks off and give me a happy end, too.

Yup, and I've been too lazy to make a BOM and do the numbers - there, I said it. Still hoping for the mythical unicorn SLO to show up at a reasonable price, ideally non-functional, hehe.

A 5150 might also be fun and if I can score one cheap it's worth a try, though Headache did mention that they're more scooped. That's often a bit of a turnoff for me, yet it's good to have variety.

Fitz, you've dealt with Nik/Ceriatone before; how does that work with import/shipping to the US?
