Effects chain...

Howdy!
I'm trying to work out the best order for my pedals, which I've only just pulled out of a box after well over a year...
Behringer AB200 A/B/Y switch, Behringer TU2000 Tuner, Vox V847 Wah, Joyo American Sound, Behringer SF3000 Super Fuzz, Boss DS1 Distortion, Biyang Baby Boom "Time Machine" Delay...
Ideas?

well id probably use the Delay on the end and the tuner at the start.other than that i dont know

I was thinking...
tuner-wah-joyo American sound- fuzz-distortion-delay
How's that sound?

Do you have an FX look? If so, modulation (in your case, delay) should go there, generally speaking.

Cheers for the link man. I'll have a look at that!
I think I do have an effects loop... Got onboard tube screamer circuit which I'm currently switching with my a/b/y switch, but I can't work out how to hook the pedal chain in, so I'll probably use my DS1 distortions instead of the tube screamer, unless someone can work out how to integrate it into the chain...;)

Justin is great. I have learned much from him over the years.

I am not sure what you mean by putting on-board effects (which I take to mean built-in) on an a/b/y switch. a/b/y is generally for pedals on the floor. Ideally, the on-board stuff will have it's own foot switch, but I have never heard of running the foot switch as part of the a/b/y chain.

When I got this amp i couldn't get the Ibanez foot switch as there were none in stock, so I bought a behringer a/b/y foot switch and worked out how to use it to switch the onboard tube screamer. I did once (a couple of years ago) have the tube screamer and my effects chain working off the a/b/y switch, but I didn't photograph it or write down how I did it... :(

White - footswitch jack
Yellow - amp input
Black - guitar cable

In this configuration I can switch the onboard tube screamer on and off with the #1 pedal, and break the guitar/amp connection with the #2 pedal.

Sorry about crappy photo quality ... Pics taken on my iPad.

First, you'll have to think about your amp setup. Though there are no hard-and-fast rules, delays generally sound better after distortion and gain stages. This is one reason they are usually put in the effects loop, if your amp has one.

With your Ibanez amp, you have the built-in Tubescreamer, but no effects loop. You have to run everything into the amplifier input. I also assume that, even without engaging your built-in Tubescreamer, the amp will start to overdrive as you turn up the volume. Because of this, you will have your delay feeding into overdrive/distortion. Again, usually this does not sound as good as the other way around. So, you'll need to set up your amp to sound as clean as possible. This is what I have to do if I use my rig with an amplifier with no effects loop, such as my Vox AC4TV or my Marshall Class 5. It's also the reason I hardly ever use those amps, anymore!

I would think about possibly omitting the Joyo American Sound. It is an amp simulator. You'll be running an amp sim into a real amp, which has it's own character. You will not make your Ibanez amp sound like a Fender amp, if that's what you're after. You will end up with some combined sound of the amp sim and the amp, itself. If you do use it, I would start by placing it at the end of the chain, as you're trying to recreate the setup feeding a real amp, only using the Joyo American Sound in it's place. Now, you may find you really like the sound you get, but at least be open to removing it from your chain.

As for the other pedals, there is a difference of opinion about whether a wah should come before or after distortion/overdrive pedals. I have mine before. It really depends on the sound you want. Experiment to see what you like best!

The order of the fuzz and DS-1 are also open to experimentation. If you want to use them in isolation, it doesn't really matter too much. However, if you think you will want to run them both at the same time, the sound will be quite a bit different in their order. I personally prefer an overdrive pushing into a distortion pedal, rather than the other way around. But, see what you prefer.

As a starting point this is how I'd do it:

Guitar -->Tuner--> Wah--> Fuzz--> DS-1-->Delay--> American Sound-->Amplifier.

Again, this is just a starting point.

Ok cool... I know that the American Sound pedal is an amp sim. It does sound great running straight into my iMac, and gives a good Hot Rod Deville feel. I'm definitely happy to leave it out as you suggested.
As for the rest, I'll give that order a shot in the morning, and report back. Cheers mate!

So if I plugged this directly into an amp cab, theoretically, it becomes the amp, is that correct?
I have worked out how to use it on my iMac, but as you say, it definitely colours the tone when run through an amp. It actually sounds slightly better running through my S/S Marshall than it does through the Ibanez TSA5...

Since the Joyo American Sound is an amp sim, yes, you are treating that as the "amplifier." The rest of the effects prior to it, "see" it as the amp.

I'm not surprised in sounds better in the SS amp.

As for plugging the American Sound into a cabinet, that will not work. I'm assuming you are referring to a cabinet loaded with passive speakers. The Joyo does not have the power to drive speakers. It is not an amplifier. It is meant to go into the mixing desk or a sound-reinforcement type of amplifier.

If, by "cab", you mean a combo amp, or something, then you can plug it in. But, you'll want to set that amp to be as clean and neutral as possible.
