Is $1200 a good price for this?

[프리버드] Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier Twenty-Five Head 25W (2.MR25X)

Of course, I'm looking at this 'version' for $170:

Not in Korea... But, I agree, it's a lot of money - & most US gear doesn't work in Korea with regards to voltage/PSU; hence why I don't really buy secondhand amps on the net.

Thanks for the price feedback, Gents.

Have you tried one, RVA (I'm sure you have, Tony)? I think I might go for the Zombie (which is a cheap version of the mini-Rec) because I just love the Messa clean and lightly driven sounds (does that sound ridiculous?). :D

I have no experience with the rectifiers but owned an Express 5/25 for a couple of years.
It was a good amplifier. The only reason I sold it was because all I did was use the clean
channel as a pedal platform and that wonderful blues/burn channel was going to waste.
I sold the amplifier to a friend of mine who is a guitar/cable/amp guy. He loves it.

Messas are a lot of money, and I've never owned one, but they seem to sound so good. If I had a nice big house in the country, a Messa and an AC30 then I'd be happy...

I have not tried one, but I have been actively hunting for the right deal ever since Hackmaster got the Rectoverb 25, which is the same amp as the Mini Rec with Reverb. I will pull the trigger when the time is right.

Yeah, that's very nice - specially designed Eminance/Messa 12" speaker and reverb tank - probably an amazing amp, but not cheap...
For me, that or the Mini Rec are equally good since I love the TC HOF mini reverb after I made my own "toneprints"

I wonder how the Zombie might be through my superb ENGL 1x10 cab.

For not a lot of money, the cab sounds great to my ears.
Engl E110 Gigmaster 110

&, what's the point of having a cab if you're not gonna get a couple of heads to experiment with?

Also, not wanting to start another thread... I am fixing the Cort tele and have sorted out the SD lil 59, and it is nice, just like an SG neck PAF, but it is still outshinned by the Manson bridge pickup which seems to be based on a Bare Knuckle Nailbomb and is utterly superb.

The idiot tech obviously wired it out of phase (as other members already suggested to take care of), so I have this really weird low-powered electronic organ cross tele bridge twang type sound in the middle position (it actually sounds like you have a phaser on...). I'm probably gonna leave it as it's just so weird and different! When the neck lil 59 is split, it gets even weirder as it's very ghost echo-ish... Onboard effects?

So the pickups are good and great. Nothing wrong with that.

As for the heads, YES! Get a few and try them with the cab. That is why I will ultimately get a Mesa Head instead of combo. However, I do not like an amp that is supposed to sound "just like X" (unless it is a genuine, well considered, clone). Someone here once said, if you are told something is just as god as something else, get the something else. However, that does not preclude judging each amp on its own merits.

Yeah, you're right, but I am in the middle space - something closer than a Messa than anything I have at under $200...

Here, it sounds good:

Also, as I am learning with my 5w/1w/.1w head - headroom on a clean to crunchy sound is important when pushing a nice cab with the maximum volume you are able... The Zombie 20w should be more fun in that respect than my current 5w head.

I am learning the realities of compression/headroom/wattage - and I almost always prefer my baby Buggera head on its maximum 5w setting; it's just a bigger sound with more scope, space and panorama (if that makes any sense...). In addition, the higher output bridge Manson puppy just pushes that air better even on clean(ish) tones.

I use'd to think that DaveD's nailbomb bridge sound was too heavy for me, but now I am realizing that it's actually the size of the 'breath' that sounds sooooo good rather than the distortion.

I find that if you are limited in volume, it is always "safer" to get your dirt from a pedal. Anytime you are getting natural breakup, it is too load for someone in the adjacent apartment, or in my present situation, the same house

^ Yeah, that makes very good sense.

But, I sold all my pedals and am trying a new route - we live and learn... :)

(Having said that, you may be right and maybe I do need a pedal to push through a high(ish) headroom clean(ish) on the Buggera.)

What is the standard AC voltage in Korea?

Might be a lot if money compared to a Joyo, but for the quality and versatility of just about any Mesa, the Mesa's are priced very reasonably.

I don't know, all that stuff is so complex to a dumb fella like me. But, if I buy electronic stuff from Germany it works. If I buy electronic stuff from the US or UK it does not work.

&, yes, I agree, Messa is superb (I personally prefer it to Marshall in my limited experience), but I don't really have the money for it.

Cut n pasted:
Electrical Plug/Outlet and Voltage Information for South Korea (the Republic of Korea / ROK) : Adaptelec, International Electrical Specialists

  • Voltage: 220-240 Volts (U.S./Canada are 110-120 Volts)

  • Primary Socket Type: Europlug, Schuko

  • Multi-voltage appliances (laptops, etc.): Plug adapter
Click socket type links to view adapter for that type

  • 110-120V electronics: Plug adapter + step-down transformer
So, I guess, for amps, the transformer is a major problem (as well as voltage and plug type...) and I'm afraid of causing problems in that space!

Korea is kinda strange; very connected to the US, virtually a colony, but different electricity type.

^ makes sense. I am not knowledgeable in this space, but:

I'm sure a Messa bought here in Korea is fine, but I don't really have the money for that. I wouldn't trust a high end product with a transformer bought outside of Korea; if for no other reason than the warranty.

BTW, I have a house in Thailand and the products from there seem to work ok with a plug adapter although spending $1000 I'd wanna check because I am more likely to end up there than the UK. I have several acres in the jungle to play at full volume!

You should have placed your hand next to the spider for a nice educational visual. Are those dangerous?

Your wife looks sweet, but her stare makes me a little nervous. Do you have to hide the knives and scissors?
