Epi SG400 refin

I’ve refinished this once already in the original color. Not much to see as the color is the same. Swapped pickups for p94s (actually Ken Rose Mozarts) and knobs to gold Teles. In doing this I learned p94s are really more akin to Jazzmaster pickups than p90s. And what I wanted was that p90 growl.

Let a few years pass and I had another vision. Olympic White Aged from Oxford Guitar Supply with Vintage Amber bevels. I used some thin pinstripe decal to more easily tape off the bevels.

Still a work in progress. But I think it worked well enough to proceed to the back.

Since the last refin I’ve acquired what should be some killer humbuckers. Oh, and going with a Freeway switch for 6 position combo off the pickups.

Taking my time with this one.

Stay tuned.

Awesome! Now I get to watch someone do it right. :yesway:

Not sure about ‘getting it right.’

A while back someone mentioned they were able to screw anything up? Me too. Just in this evolution i had the antique white SG and also refinishing a caster in Artic white. Didn’t post these steps cuz there isn’t much to see when painting white. But don’t ya know I accidentally put a coat of antique on the caster. Everything can be fixed. Two days later I was back on track.

Today could be the day. The rear side of the SG may have amber bevels by this evening. All taped off and ready to spray.

I need the weather to cooperate. All my work is done outside. I know I said I would take my time with this one but I didn’t consider the weather. Mountain weather for sure. Either too cold, too wet, too windy. I’m sure @DirtySteve has been experiencing the same.

Gratuitous pic of the back.

This back side is gonna need a redo. On the first attempt the amber pooled in some spots. Causing a bit of blotching. So I sanded of the blotch and tried again today. I’m not gonna get away with just a light sanding here. IMG_0948.jpeg
This is today’s result. Looks more like a dogs breakfast. If you zoom in and look close you’ll see all the irregularities. So now this has to dry and I’ll sand it all off and start over.

Leaving tomorrow for a week holiday. So it’ll be a bit before I get back to this. … Ahgin…
