New Gibson Model ( Atomic )

I think I like it…makes me want one of these to match…

Seriously though…it’s a Gibson mashed up answer to a Tele. I see SG, L6, LP, maybe a touch of Firebird, Marauder….
It’s got a SG bevel at the armrest area.
Is that a mini “wide range” in neck position?

I’ll remove my tongue from my cheek now.

Kind of, yeah.
If an L6 and a Marauder had a baby with a drunk designer....

Some things are kind of cool, others don't enthuse me. For starters, I'm not exceptionally excited by the offset body shape. Some offset guitars are kind of cool, but this doesn't grab me.

I like the contouring around the controls. I think I would like the contouring around the bridge and string-through holes better if that contouring rose to the surface level at the bridge, similar to how the contouring around the controls rises to the surface level. As it is, it looks like an uncovered swimming pool route. Honestly, that is the main part that I don't care for. I think the contouring is fine; I just wish it more closely resembled the contouring around the controls.

The pickguard styling has kind of a psychedelic, kooky, '60s vibe. I kind of like that.

I found a pic of the headstock. I think it's a pretty good fit with the guitar. I like how it uses an altered shape from the traditional Gibson headstock and only uses the initial, "G". The truss rod cover fits with the pickguard idea, too. So, that's cool.

Given the aesthetic of the guitar, I think it would have been better to go with a bold sparkle finish...kind of like a Gretsch Duo-Jet. I feel like that would have captured the theme better. Maybe if it had a different finish, I'd feel different about the body style.

The choice to use a split mini-humbucker paired with a full-size humbucker is nice.

Anyhoo...those are my thoughts.

Hmm. White pickguard around pickups!
No, black!
No, both!
Let's make a contour under the knobs that gradually flattens!
Ok!
Hey and let's make one around the bridge too but don't contour or flatten it, make it like the aforementioned empty swimmjng pool!
Yeah!
We have a real winner!.,

Gibson is sorta screwed because as mentioned the oldies allll want giutars to be made just like they were in tne 50s. Then the market complains they don't innovate. When they do slightly, people complain.
So they go overboard.

Well...after staring at this a little longer...I'm warming up to the offset body style when I imagine it, as I said, with a bold sparkle finish.

That route around the bridge and string-through holes is really my main problem with it, for the reason I stated earlier.

I have mixed feelings about the "Gibson" logo on the body. I kind of go back and forth with it. I mostly like it, but I can't say I love it.

I wonder how it would look with a Jazzmaster-style vibrato.

It’s over-designed and unbalanced. As such, I can’t dig it. There just aren’t a whole lot of sparely designed and balanced designs left for electric guitars… the last “new” guitar design that really worked IMO was the Fly.
