Sorry for the long winded intro, but here goes.
Cheers All,
I would like to introduce myself to the community.
I am a male in my late 40s. I have a varied array of interests, spanning a multitude of subjects.
My musical tastes are beyond most. I am open to most genres, without prejudice.
I am also an autodidact, whom has had plenty of training and certification in many fields. This has also spread to my musical abilities.
I also play any instruments i can, but i cannot read music; I just use my ears and experience and let it rip. Not that i dont know theory, or that i cant read notation, i just dont use it enough as a tool to retain the knowledge.
In my younger years i had an amazing voice. I could sing every sections part in my choir group, well. I would get yelled at by my choir director all the time.
Sadly, years of tobacco use, as well as other extra curricular substances, my vocal abilities have suffered.
Since my teens, i have written and performed original and non original music. I have never published or recorded, professionally.
Many years ago, i also worked in sound reinforcement, and have a massive love for live sound mixing. This is before line array, modern pa systems. I miss the massive pa systems of the past, especially in groove music.
I love all groove based music. Even some jazz. Generally, i appreciate more of the raw unpolished grooves. Anything from James Brown to Three Six Mafia to Dub style and other "roots" music.
I am not guitar centric, even though that was my gateway into music. It is a safe place, musically, but not a home, per se.
As i age, one of my musical hobbies is covering songs I love, complete with learning and playing all the tracks myself, including vocals.
I dont DAW, and i am not a corksniffer, so old school stand alone recording. No one set method, whatever works at the time. Prefer analog, but not digital averse. Tools come in many forms.
Im trying to set up a small moderate recording setup, but as everyone knows, one needs the dosh to make it happen. I have a lot of to do.
I dont truly care a bit about the stuff/gear its more about what one does with it. Whatever name that is on it, doesn't matter one bit. I only care about the part that comes from the speaker, to the listeners ears.
I dont care where anything is made, or any other bias. I only care about the sound and the feeling. Everything else just gets you there, minutiae aside.
As of late, i am focused on building a PA/DJ system for myself. This includes research and improving my finish carpentry skills, along with my knowledge of acoustics and the science involved. Also, the tools to do these activities cost a bit, so i am working towards that goal as well.
I am a firm believer in the power of feeling the music at loud volumes. I llve to feel the vibrations. I love to feel the kick drum pounding my chest. To this end, I am on a mission to fight against silent stages and the modern way of volume restrictions. I honestly believe that there is a control aspect to this methodology, but i digress.
I believe loud sound equals freedom. I long to feel free.
With all this understood, I am focused on improving my skills as a DJ, and as a producer/writer. I am also working on some other creative endeavors, which are team based and a little hush hush, currently.
I feel this may be a good stopping point, and does a good job of introducing myself and my interests.
Oh yeah, I also massively enjoy anything cannabis related. From cultivating to extraction. Cheers!
Sincerely,
RUMBLEDUBSKIN
