EDIT: i bought that one to ride to the rehearsals of my acoustic band. 16km one way. And i can carry a 2nd person if i need to.

It was much too short of a stay, thanks. We mainly wanted to see a few relatives that I missed on my last couple of visits, and we're not getting younger. I really enjoy that Mainz has not been as badly destroyed as Freiburg and other larger cities with gentrification. There is a lot of new construction, and leveled buildings, so I'm sure things will change there soon. It still looks a lot like it did when I was a kid, so it is still a happy place for me.

I like the new ride. It's very practical.

Oh, sorry... that was such an awful stereotypical remark, wasn't it?

yet another one, bought a few weeks ago and still not fully adapted. That's a very modern one and actually one of the fastest models around. The day after tomorrow i'll use it to ride my 1st bike race. In the age of 68. It is already clear that i'll be the last place among the velomobiles - different from last year there are no other weak drivers among the participants. But anyway, im going to drive for having fun.

It depends on the driver. I'm old, in lack of training and still adapting to the bike and go around 40 kph in the flat, and yesterday i could reach 50 kph with it. Strong drivers reach average speeds above 70 kph and peak somewhere above 80 kph.
 
Survived the race. As the only woman you always win. A bit boring.

But anyway - an average speed of 43.5 kph and a fastest lap of almost 45 kph in a bike you just own for a few weeks and have not fully adaped.

Meaning: i had fun.

Today was Tynehead park day. Haven't done that ride since spring methinks. Looked at two different weather apps, and as usual they differed. This time however they differed rather radically. One said showers in the morning and overcast in the afternoon, the other offered showers, thunder, and bonus lightning.
Hmmm... Being the optimist, I opted to subscribe to the former (cuz that's the way I like it), so off I went shorts and Tshirt at 23C or so. Lovely!

Made it to the park. Time for a water break. Two minutes later, the rain started...

Got absolutely drenched on the way back. Thankfully it was warm, no biggie! Hightailed it outta there!



Then the sky opened and the other weather app was correct again, so stopped to finish the water...



I arrived home all nice and dry, but I must pay homage to the Lord of 800wh of power. Got a Strava PR on the way back. I have now received a summons to appear for assault on battery...

Monday was a holiday, so I opted out of any/all responsibilities and wanted to try a ride I hadn't done in years.
Threw the bike on the car rack and drove out to Derby Reach park to do the "Fort to Fort" trail along the Fraser river. The day was rather hazy and not too warm at 17C when I left. Along the river it remained rather cool but very nice with no wind at all to speak of.

Entrance to the Fort trail. I had forgotten where it was, and found it at the end of the camping sites. Bear warnings...





The park was jam packed with people and there were no parking spots to be found, but the trail was relatively free of crowds...



A few heritage buildings and barns on the way...









The end of the trail pops you out directly into civilization again...





Crossing a bridge gets you into Brea Island park camp site...





Quite the property...



Log boom city...





Heading back...



 
Yesterday the AQI here was still nasty, but today I was surprised to see it had abated enough to venture out. In addition, it has gotten quite a bit cooler and at 18C opted for long sleeves.

The usual Mud Bay run on a cloudy day...



A bit windy as well, glad I opted for long sleeves...



Two water stops. One at Mud bay, and the other at the entrance to Watershed park...

Another commute to the office today. No ride on the weekend much to my dismay, but hey... we can compensate!
Getting a bit cooler in the morning and headed out at 13C in the sunshine.
My route initially takes me through a local school area, which at my entrance is an elementary school, and the other end is a high school.
They share these common newly redone fields...



After that just a serene sunny cool morning...



And I get to avoid this mess...



But had to wait at this mess for cars to pass first because...



Tugboat at work...



Same route on the way home except I picked up some "supplies"...
 
Decided to take a couple of weeks off around my birthday and get a few rides/kms in. We'll see how that goes. So far have been taking it easy, but yesterday got back in the saddle and down to Mud bay again.
Left with 2 layers on at about 16C...





The blackberry brambles have peaked...



I give up...





Why name it the "Future Trail" and then tell you not to use it?

Dropped the second layer as the day became lovely...

 
Yesterday the weather seemed fine at home, sunny and relatively warm so decided to throw the bike on the rack and head downtown. The target was Stanley Park, one of Vancouver's popular attractions.
As I headed north the skies darkened, though it didn't look like rain.
Beached the car at the Maritime museum in Kitsilano to avoid finding a space in the park, and was glad I wore long sleeves...





Need to cross the old Burrard Street bridge to get to downtown...





Took some trails in the park that I had not traversed before...

The "Seawall" is a pedestrian and cycling path that circumnavigates the entire park...

So glad I packed an extra long sleeve layer as it was quite cool. Might have been the last ride for fingerless gloves. Great relaxing/scenic day though!
