Old Marshall Valvestate VS265 2X12 Stereo Chorus Amp

Bought this new in 1997. It was Made in England and its been a good amp. Over the years, the chorus has become noisy and a few pots are now scratchy. It also makes a loud pop on shutdown, which I think is a voltage imbalance across the rails.

A couple months ago, I replaced the original 1997 Marshall script tube (EC833) with a new 7025TAD. Nice improvement in tone - zero change in noise.

Anyways, its not worth too much, but I've been wondering if I could get it repaired. If the "white noise" was gone, its a really great sounding amp.

Or, I could pull the head a convert it to a 2X12 extension cabinet.

Suggestions???

Wow...this amp has such great tone. Aside from being noisy the minute it is switched on, and the noisy chorus, its a great amp.

Here's a shot taken this morning. Not bad for a 1997 that spent many years gigging.

I recently installed a JJ EC833-MG tube. The original "Gold Back" speakers are still in good shape.

The red Mojotone grille cloth didn't look as cool as I thought it would, but its very tough material - even hard to cut with scissors - so it was an improvement over the blsck cloth with a couple of holes in it.

Hoping to take it to an amp guy down here who has a great reputation with Marshalls.

If I can quiet down the noise, it will be a great amp....maybe new grill cloth is in order???
