NAD - Marshall Lead 12

After the shuffle with the new combo, I'm left with this gizmo.
The 2 logos are probably worth more than what I could sell it for.
OD channel is absolutely horrid transistor-y rubbish, but the cleans can be decent.
Might make a good pedal platform, or a neutral amp for a multi effects board.

Oh, you are making me think of the little Park by Marshall.

Well I found only one Park 75 for sale I paid $650.00 years ago heck the GEC KT88 tube is $700.00 each now

A few final pics - didn't bother taking pics of the tolex application.
Wrapped it in the leftover purple/black from my Haze15 re-do.
Recycled some vintage Marshall somweave grill cloth from the stash.

Here's a back view.
Decided to give the G12C's a try since I had both amps opened up.
Ordered an IEC power cord jack for the G15, but the fixed cord works fine for now.
Also have some new piping inbound for both amps to replace the spliced together scraps.

Tried out the new stereo rig with the Zoom G3n as a splitter and for some TBE.
These amps have a similar 80's JCM-ish overdrive tone with the gain cranked.

The G15RCD (Lead15) is a real sleeper amp that can be had on the cheap.
Dual gain controls, MV, spring reverb and that "Contour" reverse mids control.
Wasted on the 8" combo and 10" mini-stack.
Run it to a 12" or two and it'll roar with the best SS Marshalls.

Those limited-edition greenbacks are a nice match for the little fellas
Strummed a few chords, and Led Zeppelin started coming out of the guitar...

Ok I have to ask... If you could only keep one, which would it be?

They are both nice sounding amps when they are freed from the lousy stock speakers.
I wouldn't say one is better than the other, just different in good ways.
Pairing two similar amps in stereo is where the magic happens (imo), so choosing one makes no sense to me.
They have similar tone, but the G15 has more gain / tone control, and has a spring reverb.

I've always thought the hype over the lead12 was a bit unjustified, as well as the prices people are asking for them.
If you were looking for a bargain on a little SS Marshall, the G15RCD is a great amp if you can send it to a good speaker.
Someone asked me if they are going to replace my Origin20's, and the answer is no, they're not even in the same league.

I used to have the Lead20 & Lead30, as well as the Lead15 micro-stack.
I got a bargain on both of these and I'm planning on keeping both.

I liked my Lead12 for about a week after I got it working again before I lost interest. :ROFLMAO:

I think I need to put a 12" speaker in it like you did.
It'll fit, but it's a chore to remove the grill, cut the larger baffle hole, and get it all back together.
Have you run it out of the new jack to a bigger cab?

I fired up the little pair today after work.
The 12" speakers are a definite improvement (imo).

But then I switched over to the 4210 / Haze15 duo.
There's just no polite way to compare them to tube amps.

Yes, it's much better that way, but it still sounds like a SS amp. Alvin Youngblood (AKA AlvisX on the MF) says it doesn't sound so SS if you use a curly cable with it. I bought one, but I haven't tried it yet. I was shocked when it arrived at how big it is. I expected an old phone cord size cable, but it's about twice as thick and big and I didn't realize I bought a 30ft cable. :ROFLMAO:

BTW I was kind of joking in my last post. I just put it aside because I'm having fun rolling tubes in my Origin and playing with cabs and needed it out of the way.

If I do the 12" speaker I'll be replacing the grill cloth, mine has a hole in it. I would just make a new baffle and put a grille type cover on the speaker like I did with my MG conversion cab, but I don't think a 12" one will fit. If I can verify it'll fit I might just do that. Also I hate that huge Marshall logo, it's too big for this amp and looks weird. If I redo the baffle I might try to put a smaller 6" logo on it. I just have to strip the paint off of the one I have. It should be pretty easy since it didn't stick on my first try.
