My brother is ambidextrous.. when we played little league baseball he was a pitcher. He would throw one lefty, then righty.. change it up right there one the mound !Nope. I am left hand impaired. About the only thing I can do with my left hand is fret notes…. And that surprises me. I mean…. I can’t even use a screw driver or swing a hammer with my left hand.
I have watched my youngest switch back and forth. He is a lefty by nature. But plays guitar righty. Watched him pick up a lefty guitar one day and in a few minutes was playing it almost as good as he played righty. Called him a show off.
I’ve entertained the idea…but…I’d wanna start with a beater, and with what I’ve amassed…it sounds like a no fun scenario. Someday, maybe, I’ll bump into a decent and affordable bass to cut my teeth on.How difficult was it ?

I have a guitar perfect for this experiment.. I think I can flip the bridge 180°, re-string it upside down and give it a go.After 46 years playing righty it seems horrifying.
I’d say, “go for it!” If you aren’t all skeeved by the possibility that you’re going to want to ditch all of your righty guitars…I have a guitar perfect for this experiment.. I think I can flip the bridge 180°, re-string it upside down and give it a go.

There's about a 95% chance this won't work..I’d say, “go for it!” If you aren’t all sleeved by the possibility that you’re going to want to ditch all of your righty guitars…![]()
Don’t forget the nut…gotta re-cut.There's about a 95% chance this won't work..besides, a Dean ML is pretty symmetrical.
The bridge just sits atop the adjustable height bridge posts. I think if I just lift it off and flip it 180, the intonation will be correct.
Re-string it backwards and leave it setup this way so I can spend time everyday working at it.

Oh…don’t be such a wuss…show a little backbone! Commit!!!
If it was easily reversible I was gonna try it with the ML, but I think I'll just buy a lefty guitar to play around with this idea.Oh…don’t be such a wuss…show a little backbone! Commit!!!
Welcome to my way of thinking. If it was easily reversible I was gonna try it with the ML, but I think I'll just buy a lefty guitar to play around with this idea.

My oldest kid is very much a lefty. Baseball. Catches and throws left handed. For a while in little league he did try and switch hit. Fairly successful, but ultimately settled on batting left handed. Tennis…. Kid doesn’t have a backhand…. Only a forehand. So yes. He used both hands. Switched so seamlessly I never saw him do it when playing. My brother is ambidextrous.. when we played little league baseball he was a pitcher. Same thing when he went to the plate to bat.. left-handed one time, righty the next.

That's what I'm reading.. the only thing you bring along is your fretboard knowledge. However, it's all mirrored.I knew a guy in Indiana, great player, who took a summer job in a box factory and accidentally cut all four fingers of his left hand completely off. Couldn’t be made functional again, so he bought a lefty Strat and a thumb pick, and within a year he had most of his chops back. He knew where all the notes were, he just needed to build a new set of muscle memories. I’m guessing it took a tremendous act of will to do it.
