Ziricote?

Please do not say how it sounds. Fretboards do not get into the pickups as far as I can tell.

I will risk the wrath!!!

Fingerboard/neck wood does affect tone. Fullstop. I am 100% convinced of this fact, have heard it with my own ears, I do not care what science or reason has to say on the issue! Rosewood and maple necks clearly, very clearly, sound different even on eggsackery the same guitar. Fullstop. I will not debate this topic. My ears are correct. I will let others comfortably wallow in their beliefs no matter how wrong they may be. :D

Ibanez uses this as a body wood for some of its Premium guitars.

Just saw some ads on a local stores FB page today highlighting them.

Well--Grump--et all --- here ya go:
I have recently had the LUXURY of housing 2 virtually IDENTICAL instruments save the fretboard and finish materials. AND --- I wanted (not due to fretboard--I was mainly interested in the heavy varnished burst finish and IF it effected tone over the more open natural oiled wood)

I did my own (highly Scientific DOOM ROOM) testing---(yes thats a Henry Rifle over my shoulder, over the window--- properly as every window should have ----so you can break said window and shoot trespassers swiftly without having to RUN to the next room to get the other gun.......FYI---STAY OFF MY LAWN! )

anywhoo..........

I played MIne
your #1.jpg

And I played Gaskets.........

Same T-60 design....same manufacturer---identical electronics RIGHT down to the pots and caps and the wiring as they are only a year apart. Pups--identical --- string trees, tuners, bridge, saddles....EVERYTHING ---IDENTICAL--- neck wood---body wood--bolt plate and style of heel..Identical lining in the cases!!!!!.... Both cut (I would bet good money) on the same CNC machine. Even same gauge roundwound strings ---though I can not attest to the manufacture of those on Gaskets as they where what was on it when it came to the Swamp.
ONLY difference fretboard material--- and body varnish---

THe Burst guitar........and the natural T .......THROUGH EXHAUSTIVE 4 day weekend testing prior to shipping (I put some hours on her Mate!) ....sounded the DAMN same---- tone --- sustain--- ---vibe ---
The same. ...back to back.....in a controlled environment--- same amp--- same settings--- same amp CORD...SAME NUMBER OF FRETS SAME FRET WIRE ......same 12 pack of Guinness used....through most all the testing.....SAME DAMN DUNLOP green PICK!

Same......damn same.......no difference.

Lets all move on they are lying to you to get you to buy---or accept --- whatever it is they are selling/pushing/dealing----its called marketing I worked in an ad agency --- we spent hours -- at topless bars dreaming up the wording for stupid ads......"You can SAY it does this or that --- Tell everyone GRANDMOTHERS APPROVE ---- put a warm puppy in the add with sad eyes----puppies sell--- speaking of PUPPIES, where did the other stripper go????"

its crap --- move on .

This has been a Reality Check from Uncle eSGEe ----

DonP wore me down in a debate one time when I said "perception is reality", so I will say that perception taints reality. If you are convinced it is true, regardless of science and facts, then it is true...for you. BTW, what color is the sky in your world?

To me the fretboard is more a visual thing over a tone enhancing thing .
Feel adds heavily into the equation as well.
Rosewood boards are just too grainy for my liking.
Yes I have rosewood boards on some seriously good guitars.
But truth be told, I prefer an ebony or maple fretboard.
Why you ask? They feel better to me. When playing and especially bending, I can feel the board.
And that's where I like the smoothness of the ebony or maple.
Never had the chance to experience Ziricote, but from the description I think I'd dig it.

Had a really enjoyable couple of hours with the owner of Ranka Guitars, Bangkok, today.

His guitars are superb and at $1000 or so are great value. I was playing the tele mentioned on another thread and it put my $1000 Fender to shame, big time. He makes the pickups too, only 6.9 but alnico v PAF style and they have real bite and growl. We spoke about all elements of the guitars he makes and he explained and showed me the choices he makes, including tone woods!

He has been making superb guitars by his own hand for a long time, so I was happy to learn from his experience.

1) I wonder what ears some folks have.

2) the guitar is a complete organic instrument not a piece of science.

The one on the far left was the one I noodled with, granted he had a big Messa to play itthrough, so it sounds great, but the build was superb. The neck, stainless frets, perfectly cut bone nut, Gotoh hardware were perfectly put together so the little bastard played effortlessly. I don't wanna spend money on a new guitar and carry it back to Korea and an angry wife, but...

Btw, as I sat with him in the small show roomand chatted, the open workshop had one guy hand carving bodies while another sat hand wiring pickups. In the time I was there, neither completed a single item, they were craftsmen working in their own time to get things right. I felt priviledged to be there, as if this is how Fender and Gibson were when they started out.

they look like fantastic guitars.Im a sucker for a nice Tele.yep once you get to be a big outfit mass production takes over and you loose the personal touch. those are one offs there now.You buy that one on the left Grump :)

I was pretty shocked how a low output tele pickup had the SG growl. As I was talking to him, the guitar was on my lap and without realizing I was just playing away, easy as pie, no bum notes or Dead frets, but this was his show room guitar in his personal home/small factory. I literally had to knock on his front door to be let in.

If I go back, which will cost me $1000, I'll ask him if he minds me taking some picture.
