TVvoodoo's Straplab

Probably don't talk about these often enough, but all you young fellers who are gettin' fed up with the strap lock "systems" might want to take a tip from the old-timers. None of which are here on TTR LOL!!!!!

95c22ZYi_o.jpg

I don't use them on all my own guitars, I prefer the larger strap buttons myself, but these do have some nice advantages, and I sell at probably at least six pairs a month, with many repeat customers.

1. They are noiseless, fast/easy to use, relatively simple, no maintenance and surprisingly secure and don't add extra leverage on your strap or button screw.
2. They'll add about 4-5" to your strap chain so you can get yourself off that scary last ladder loop
3. They they add a nice "looser" feel to your front end... hard to explain, but definitely there.

I make them mostly out of good scrap leather I have here, but there's a some hardware involved you don't see which makes them trusty. I guess in a way they're still a bit gadgety LOL!

I have added the "Gateway Drug" straps to the store. Here's a shot of a couple of them that I added my shock absorber feature to the front end. Just a bit of heavy doubled up elastic gives them a slightly softer ride than a typical no-give poly strap.

Under no weight... it looks regular/normal...

qulJsnna_o.jpg

Under about 8.5-9 lbs... the stealth elastic kicks in - because you are generally holding a bit of guitar weight by the neck, it won't stay bottomed out. I feel this system helps minimize the shoulder-pounding a typical poly strap inflicts upon us. I came up with this idea back in 2015 or so, but really have not explored it much further since...

Happy Friday!
These are by far the BEST strap locks for an SG or any guitar where the strap button is on the back of the body. I've been using them since 1978. When my original stash ran out, I was excited to see that Brad was making them, and purchased a few to have on reserve. These are the only logical choice for SG strap locks.

@SG John thank you for the mention... I only have the Old Schools on a couple guitars - why in particular the SG suitability? I sold my G-400 before I started making these check this pic out, I found it online.. and had to grab it.

img_1_1745523097939.jpg

My version is a bit different, I think a bit more trusty and robust. But they cost a bit more too. But still way less than big brand metal contraptions.

New in the Well-Hung Strapateria today are four "Straps With No Name"

24EImwjx_o.jpg

Made of that 80's patch leather, courtesy of my TGP buddy Motorhed who sent me his old vintage overcoat, He just wanted one strap out of it. I chopped it up real good, probably get ten or eleven more. The leather has been conditioned, is cootie free, strong and exudes probably as much 1980's cheeze factor as you are likely able to handle, and actually makes a SUPER-KILLER guitar strap.

A bit of retro ribbon really helps it along too. These 2-3/4" wide, medium padded, 43-56"

yph1ARdc_o.jpg

Over the weekend, found myself cruising some medium & Big STRAPCO websites checking what's up in the strap universe.
One thing I came across several times were separate sections for so-called "bass" straps. .... Huh?

b747e157bf38064d262e67510b69ddc8.gif

I mean, there were a couple of wider, seemingly padded straps in a few places but some others just seemed to list the very same darn guitar straps over again, only as "bass straps" at the same price as the strap in the guitar strap section.

icegif-2.gif

Plenty of bassmen enjoy Well-Hung "bass" straps... even if they were actually "guitar" straps. Any booty-mover players I've ever known in-person or built customs for probably wouldn't be so gullible to think pinning a good "guitar" strap on a bass as a horribly regrettable musical mistake, one so obvious even the skullet dude by the bar staring your band down with his arms crossed, might probably just up and leave.

critical-error-error.gif

Granted, ALL my straps are entirely suitable for both bass AND guitar, most being 3" wide AND padded. Definitely easy to see where a lot of the 2" wide "starter pack" poly straps on the market would drive thunder-pumpers bonkers in short order... though I do recall making a hand-tooled skinny 1-1/4" strap last year for a veteran Regina bassist and he loves it, this one below....
Different strokes!

mbcmt5cB_o.jpg

The fact that generally bass guitars are a bit heavier, a chonkier body with a longer neck and heavier hardware ... so a luxuriously padded strap that treats your shoulder nice and fights back neck dive is gonna be a welcome relief.

That describes about 95% of the current Well-Hung strap inventory on Reverb right now. Incidentally, the best, most varied selection I've EVER had available in the entire W-H history. Go have a look! Beefier, more comfy, longer, lots and lots of one-offs, and people you play out with are gonna ask about it, guaranteed!

With an SG or any guitar with the straplocks on the back of the body, you want something slim and secure. The simplicity of putting the strap on a button attached to a piece of leather, and secured by another piece of leather is genius. No large contraption with a push button, ball springs, and the possibility of snagging a belt or pushing on the button and releasing the lock.
For years on guitar forums, folks have complained about the lack of good choices regarding straplocks for SGs. I would always reference the leather straplocks from the 70s and how perfect they were.
Thanks for still making them.

Ok, I am looking back here a bit and starting to realize my posts have long entered TLDR territory, so for once, and likely in the future Imma keep it shorter, if not sweeter?
Today on the bench... GeoMatrix #4. Just finished hours of tooling and the first dye stage here about half an hour ago... I'm going for an Iced Tea sort of burst on this one, consciously trying not to go too dark on the sides for once.

All the detail will come out with the antique past probably late tomorrow. Keep watching!
This one is not for anyone in particular, just felt the urge to tool another. Maybe this one might get Don's motor runnin' for
that quilty Wambird, but he's already got one of these too. The first one I think.

NegBADY4_o.jpg

Just got a few words back from Jeff in Palm City, FL on his Basket Case sling purchase... He too kept it short and sweet...
but I really like the use of the word "remarkable" in his feedback - it's so true!

bgeYmITA_o.jpg

Sent away a "Strap With No Name" to Ontario and a "Comfort-Flex" to New York. Been a while since I had a double sender day. Feels good.

Thank you @Thatbastarddon - I appreciate that you consider this content somewhat in interesting and a destination
and not just some sort of extended advertisement, though yeah, it definitely straddles both categories.

GeoMatrix #4 got the antique paste treatment last night, YUCK!

wHP2Gh7v_o.jpg

Thank gosh most of it came off! It's now getting some clearcoats before I can assemble and stitch the pieces together -
This is probably not the iced tea burst I was aiming for... more like a faded honeyburst I guess. Little too warm for a dirty lemon.

kOqz9yPG_o.jpg

Still trying to move those dang Poker chips my brothers! The UP/DOWN - SUGAR/SPICE flipside chip has these readings on opposite sides. UP/DOWN could be ideal for you strange fellows who are ambidextrous and sometimes forget which way to wear your paul, I guess. Plus, the text also works as handy reference for where the toggle is pointing. I guess in the middle, you're just in limbo.

JfI016x3_o.jpg

Don't like that? just flip the chip to the SUGAR/SPICE side visually referencing (if not accentuating), your sweet, sweet neck pickup toanz, OR the bitey zing your bridge position magnets are providing. Parked in the middle, you toans are exactly like one of those delectable spice cakes we used to eat a lot in the 80s. MMMMM, cake!

If you are considering one of my Flipside Chips, (there are MANY more in my reverb store), or treating you and your guitar to a Well-Hung strap, Pro-Pins jumbo strap buttons, Old School leather straplocks or whatever, consider doing it tonight or tomorrow morning - I will be taking a bit of a road trip in the near future and will be shuttering the store for a few days over the weekend.

Happy Fourth of July my southern kemosabes, be safe! Hard to play guitar when suddenly you find you are missing a few fingees!

GeoMatrix #4 now listed on the 'verb and of a handsome sort of devil it is. I decided this one deserved the Well-Hung Class Act back buckle configuration which protects your guitar and is super convenient to adjust. There is a herringbone lining in gold/camel somewhat reminiscent of f-tweed.
Really quite beautiful and sturdy cowboy style buckle set, with the tail strap pass-thru to protect precious...

LtxC5dq5_o.jpg

Painstakingly hand-tooled to visually pleasure the eye, padded and 2-3/4" wide to pleasure the shoulder. Burnished edges.
Heavy duty thread in creme, goes 41" - 54" which is a bit shorter than usual, but I seem to be getting more requests for shorter straps than longer lately.

deDmATRY_o.jpg

I'd call this similar to a honeyburst finish in a semi-gloss. I was going to make it iced tea, but I stopped before browning out the edges more, 'cause I liked where it was sitting.

fowVrW08_o.jpg

These tooled pieces are normally by custom order, but I'll make them once-in-awhile to keep my chops up, and demonstrate dye capabilities etc.
One last thing... those who've been to my store know I usually include in my reverb guitar strap listings various closer shots/angles, but also a pic that
"steps back" a bit. I feel it's helpful for potential customers to see the effect from a bit further out.

QNZktUix_o.jpg

Last chance tonight to grab something from the shop. I'll be closing it for a few days tomorrow morning, for road trip to the in-laws,
and a bit of a supply run if I can squeeze one in.

Had a nice four day break, summer road test in our "new-to-us" SUV, and it performed nicely. But some crazy modern features like the motor that turns off, when you stop, and other things that want to help steer you kind of bug a fella used to controlling his own vehicle. Plus, the first vehicle I ever had with a big ol' screen on the dash, and boy it's kind of distracting when you get the notion to try to find the exact right tune... anyway it's fun, and mostly my wife's car, she commutes, I only pilot it on road trips.
The SUV rides nice has plenty enough "jam" for me, and I did escape a speeding ticket due to just being very polite... in fact the officer flat out told us we were the most "boring" people he had stopped all day. Being boring probably saved me $300 LOL! I've actually never yet had a speeding ticket in my life... I thought the jig was up.

Anyway.. back in the shop, large water reptiles have been heavy in the news lately, and I decided it was time to use up some hide I'd stowed in the Well-Hung Leather library.
I had a similar hide before with more crocodiley square scales, but these ones are rounded, so I'm calling these three "Alligatory Alley" - 3" wide, pretty long, up to approx 46"-60" and only LIGHTLY padded.

Did you know a group of alligators is called a congregation? Neither did I until about an hour ago!

4AWaW5zr_o.jpg

It's a dark brown variegated thing, but seems to come off in photos more as oxblood. I sewed them with contrasting creme stitch,
and if you look close you can see I double-stitched the body with another dark brown stitch for extra strength.

f90m5Gdy_o.jpg

Just a whole lotta badass texture, a semi-gloss shine, and very comfy with heavy reinforced leather ends. If you look you can see I used heavy wale corduroy in the lining in camel, it's soft and stops dive dead, and looks much like a croc's belly, which is something I remember clearly from the last time I fought off a big hungry one, (and naturally won quite easily, many people are saying this and know this is true). These are in the store ready to go!

vo3tIpTI_o.jpg

Nice to be back in the shop, it's my happy place... had a great trip, but as I age out I'm finding I'm not much the traveler.
I did come across something really cool in a thrift shop to make straps out of, I'll be having some fun with it later on this month.

Well-Hung Cult-members probably know how I feel about plain old black straps. But sometimes I just gotta make them,
particularly when by custom order. Johnny Oh! in Tampa ordered this, telling me he's feeling some discomfort,
so I am looking forward to his thoughts, once he gets a chance to put this through it's paces.

qw6pPQQ4_o.jpg

Black Lightning ZAP! is a strange one in "none more black" I used a semi-gloss base leather and very flat leather for the bolt. I honestly wasn't sure about it but now that I see it, it's kind of cool and interesting at least for a black strap, anyway. Black lightning seems kind of silly really, but then again I've made ZAP straps out of python, skulls and all kinds of other patterns so I should just pour myself a tall glass of STFU and sit this debate out.

While I was crafting this custom build, I also had three more ZAPS! on the bench that I will be listing on Reverb tomorrow...
Again black moto leather, but with a bolt in subtle gunmetal so it stands out a bit more.

VnW177Qx_o.jpg

Happy Thursday, not looking forward to tomorrow. Bookkeeping day. Oh JOY! Shouldn't take me too long though.
The past couple months have been a bit slower than I'd like to admit. Definitely a drop in my custom business...
if you have any ideas on something you want me to consider cooking up for a special guitar or guitarist, just let me know!

Hello amigos, happy Friday! I managed to get my quarterly bookwork done, a little too easily :sad face:
and earlier today something new for my personal stable. :happy face:

First off, I promised to list up some new ZAP! straps... "Gunmetal" - there's three of 'em recently struck my
reverb store, all slightly different ranges of adjustment. Thankfully no major damage, just some hair loss.

5uht5ov7_o.jpg

3" wide moto leather base but a strange sort of gunmetal metallic bolt stitched up front.
It's metallic, but also only glows mostly when the light hits right, so kind of fun in that way. If you're up under the lights on stage like you so deserve, it'll provide an interesting effect

"Now you see me...

kr9GHVyK_o.jpg

9LeB7KwU_o.jpg

Now you DON'T! * * * Magic Man! * * *"

Not too much else special, other than they were lovingly-crafted by a caring Strapologist, Doctor of Strapology, or Strappier, or whatever else you might call my calling.

Something fun - a rare new addition to my own stable.

IMG_20250711_100757.jpg

For a Hamer I refinished years ago. Many titillating things to see here, a luxurious black 'n gold limed finish, zebra-buckers, intonateable wrap bridge, a fun poker chip, etc. Plenty enough to stir the lustful vampire inside most any dude. Want to comment or further discuss this instrument or photo, please Private Message me.

So-called "Alcoholic" Jokester v.s. Insufferable Crank

OMG, i was cruisin TGP and a thread discussing the work of Anthology straps, and a dude who I blacklisted on Reverb starts chirping
openly about how W-H guitar straps are basically :poo: with terrible customer service, and that I'm a :poo:craftsman and cheap-ass alcoholic.
:bash: THREAD

Admittedly he had a rare bad W-H Reverb experience, which was 100% my bad in packing. This blowhard recieved a quick, full, refund
no questions asked. I posted this timely feedback that just came in last night, after his latest salvo LOL!

Some dudes, man. They just don't get it, and will always remain undeserving of gettin' it too.

A "Bottom Dweller" has arisen from the depths of dark, brackish waters and got hisself made into a pretty cool guitar strap.

vclp9A1F_o.jpg

Typical build, 3" wide leather reptile emboss, in an interesting pattern I've not seen before and it has no gloss to it. Actually kind of hard to photograph. This would be an ideal strap to put on a guitar with little or no personality of it's own to make it pop a little bit more. And of course you will enjoy the benefit of the macho texture and the padded comfort. 43-59" so goes nice and long too.

Also a flight of fancy I wrassled in today using one of those "found item" No Prisoners belts and more reptile emboss. As much as the one above is low key, this one is the opposite. In fact, the rainbow gem conchos are so dazzling, I suspect it might be distracting for anyone to use tis strap as they may find themselves stopping play to admire the crazy rainbow effect of colors sparking off it.

nVnP6FbL_o.jpg

Approx 120 crystal rhinestone gems all up and down, some ball chain, and nickel rivets too. Never-mind the silvery metallic croc embossed it's all sittin' on. I named this one "Puff The Magic Dragon" as I imagined this would be the sort of mystical-metal sort of strap Ronnie James Dio might be inclined to pin on his bass on, if he were still rockin' out.

The trick with this sling will be to find a suitable guitar to mate it with. This piece threatens to overpower almost anything visually, as in this strap will wear the guitar, not vice versa. I'm actually looking forward to the brave strap connoisseur who figures they own a guitar that can pair with this, 3" wide, medium padded, it's fully as as heavy-duty as it is visually powerful and all the bling does give it a bit of heft. I believe this one also goes approx 45"-59" - many more pics and listings for both of these are now up in the Well-Hung store on Reverb.com

New in the Reverb shop is Alligator Alley, black ladder edition... the same as one I showed last week, just with black leather
on the nose and tail instead of brown.

GTRehfEy_o.jpg

While I was making that one, I made one that is a bit "EXTRA..." a No Prisoners edition that I am auctioning off here on TTR!

GO SEE DETAILS and place your bid >>> RIGHT HERE <<<

No Prisoners "The Benefactor" looks like this

wCICFni9_o.jpg

The winning bidder will simply pay the amount to Wavmixer, to keep the lights on here at TTR.
I will pay for shipping and add some fun W-H swag too. One Week long auction.

May the most beneficent (and likely also the most handsome) TTR member win!
Also this is coming to Reverb tomorrow...
