January 31st 2020 for me. 43 years to the day I started on Jan 31st 1977.

Started full time Oct 1972. Don’t remember the exact day. But sometime just after the 4th when I turned 18.

Retired Oct 2, 2020. Have not missed work one minute since. It’s flipping glorious.

I had planned on Dec 31, 2020 as official last day. There were some circumstance go down at work that made me decide I wasn’t going thru another fall season at the boat yard. Was not the bosses. They had been great. I don’t like to burn bridges, so I used the pandemic as the excuse…. Even though that wasn’t it.

As I've pondered things, particularly as pertains to my new job, which I will start later this month, I realized that I have fewer working years ahead of me as I have behind me.

As my wife and I were discussing this, I realized I have half as many years to work at this new company as I put in with the old company, unless I decide to work further into my life.
