Sometimes...you just have to say

Like I said, it sounds real nice but saying the word "cool" 11 times to describe the guitar is overselling and unnecessary.

Same here. Realistically, I think the price tag puts it out of reach for many players, $4k is a pretty good chunk of change.

But, putting all that aside, I've got no issues with it. I'm more partial to the vintage sunburst model for the acoustic. Aside from the price, my big decision point would be what it sounds like plugged in.

I don't really have a serious issue with using the Les Paul name, either. I do roll my eyes at it a bit, though, as it seems a bit gimmicky, but I'm not seriously put-off by it.

I find it less gimmicky, actually, then them slapping the Les Paul name on student models (Junior and Special) way back in the '50s. Now that was/is a serious violation of trading on a name as those things have very little to do with what a Les Paul should be about. Here at least it's not even an electric so feels less like false advertising.

Back then, Gibson still had the endorsement deal with Les Paul. I wonder how he felt about the name being used on the Juniors and Specials.

I'd like to think that Les Paul approved of the genius Gibson decision to produce affordable guitars that almost every teenage kid who had a paper route could afford. (y)

As any smart business would offer student models and get people in the ground floor of the brand. Those things ain't Les Pauls though. Some love them, and there is no problem with that (I like how they play but hate how they sound), but they are not Les Pauls.

In a way, I'd like to think the same, if for no other reason than the altruistic element in such a sentiment.

But, it's not altogether clear what, if any, control Les Paul had over the usage of his name on any guitars. The much-discussed removal of his name from the SG was really a matter of the contract between Les Paul and Gibson coming to an end, and he did not wish to renew due to his divorce from Mary Ford.

Did Les have any "veto power"? I don't know. I've tried searching for an answer and I can't find anything conclusive.

To be fair that's on the video reviewer and not the product. But yeah, way excessive.

I dunno either.
I have read where the first LP prototype was a burst but Les said no way they have to be gold to give a sense of upscale quality. So he had that much say at first.

I’m sorry that I called one of them a “Clown-burst”. That was a bit harsh on my part. $4K though…better be good. No pressure.
Clown burst is the term.
I have a clown burst and love it.
Had to have one.

I love Juniors. Whether it's a Les Paul or an SG, it doesn't matter. They have an incredibly stable neck with no rhythm pickup chopping away the neck tenon. They are very resonant and lively. Need to play mine more often.

Hmmmm not sure if I like P90s and do not have one.
