These Epiphones have been showing up lately

They look good. I wonder how they compare to a Gibson Tribute or Studio. I mean, they have a figured top and binding like a high end $3000 Gibson, so how can they sell them for 800 bucks like that. I get the whole Gibson name brand that you're paying for, but even a stripped down plain top Tribute with no binding and a shit PCB cost more than that. If I ever see one out in the wild I'll check it out, but so far I haven't seen one hanging on the wall.

You could put all Gibson hardware on it if you wanted and still be thousands of $$$$ ahead.
There has to be more to the difference besides hardware and electronics. I don't know about the bridge and tailpiece, but it comes with the same Grover Rotomatic tuners my Standard came with. Specs say CTS pots so I assume it's not PCB controls. I imagine the pickups are some "licensed by" cheapos, but I always end up swapping out pickups anyway, I have my go-tos. Specs say maple top, but I wonder if it's just marketing and it's really just a veneer. The same description tries to tell you that the binding and finish add to the sound. lol

"the flame maple top adds brightness and definition to every note. Enhanced by the guitar's 7-ply binding and gloss finish, the materials work together to deliver a responsive and articulate sound." :rolf:

Hmm, also claims to have an ebony fret board. Is it actual ebony, or are they referring to a stained color?

I'm mostly just goofing here, but these are the things I'd like to know. lol. :run:

I swear they make chinese grovers knock offs and use those on the top end Epiphones. When i bought my epiphone Les Paul Custom JJN sig. It come wth the Grover Rotomatics. I bought some nickel plated Grover locking tuners and they had a whole different sized bushing nut size. The Hip Shot d tuner i bought had the smaller sized hex nut on the bushing as the ones i bought. So ya they make knock off Grovers.

Not surprised at all.

If one appears locally , I will tear in to it.
One thing I can about Epiphone last year in December I sat down with a more traditional Epi custom and it was a very good guitar imho. I was set to buy one , I always liked the custom headstock. After playing several Epiphones, I liked them all and at the time that custom Epi could be had for $500. My wife had been in several different stores patiently waiting for me. She walks in and says get the Gibson, of course I did. It’s kind of case queen but awesome.

Valid points, I don’t know anyway to find out other than buying one and tearing it apart to find out. The board , I don’t know but if I found it not to be ebony I would not want to keep it.

There is one of the Custom Widows locally in orange, I like the look.
My Gibson LP Classic is in its case currently. I had the studio out a couple weeks ago.

I can’t remember last time I put strings on the Les Paul classic. I will further inspect the strings. I put it on the guitar stand just now.

I would be better off not to go to GC because my will is not to strong when it comes to new guitars.
